With the uss voyager finished, I can finally return to design my own models.
First I want to finish the Kea.
In this third iteration I incorporated the hull surface details that I sketched with a pen on the second build.
I am still not satisfied and will further improve and add surface features but until now it looks like this:
I invented a boarding ramp on the port side and a cargo elevator on the belly, up until now just texture (in the far future I may make then functional...).
I "invented" those features because in the game model there is no such thing. You just fly the ships in space. But I thought it will be a nice detail.
I designed the two small antenna dish thingies on the forward pointing wing egdes (also present in the original game model).
I tried to adapt the somewhat open engine section at the back. The teladi ships in the games are rather for trade than for fighting and they are designed in a manner of optimizing for hauling cargo, stripping the vessel of unnecessary weight.
On that scale it is hard to adapt all the chaotic piping and wiring. I still have to improve that part.
I designed retracted landing gear (with small metal plates underneath the surface for attachable landing legs with magnets). Also not present in the original game model
I improved the attachment of the wings. In the last version it was inner edge of wing superglued to the side of the hull.
Now I use an overlapping tab on the underside of the wing that gets inserted into a cut on the side of the "atmosphere engine". That way it is securely attached with the use of normal glue
