Teladi Kea (X3 AP, X-Universe) - low poly edition

I watched episodes of the original series "back in the day" when there was actually good free tv in germany. I'm talking about the 2000s years, when I was in school. But I just watched it occasionally.

And then the remake series came out and I watched some of it. I liked it but somehow didn't keep on watching.

I don't know. Seems like I cannot find the time to watch series anymore. Still want to see the expanse
It already was difficult to find the time watching Neon Genesis Evangelion with my wife. Luckily we managed to. I wanted to show her NGE for a really long time. Great stuff btw
Loved the Expanse!:) Also have some templates of some of the ships.

Loved the old BSG series, but never really got into the new one. I guess one of these days I'll watch it all f the way through... maybe. Speaking of old series are you aware of any exclusive German sci-fi series such as Perry Rhodan or the like that was for a mostly for a European audience? Sometimes some good series never quite makes it across the "pond" to the States.
One old series comes to my mind: Raumpatrouille Orion
My mother did not like it back then. She watched Star Trek instead

:lolsign:

I watched all of them, I was Sci-Fi starved. The new BSG is incredible though. It is one of my all time favorites. I really really like "Farscape" too. I have a channel that shows every episode all day long. It takes about a week to go through the whole series.

Raumpatrouille is a classic - the first German scifi show, made in the 1960s! They used kitchen equipment, tools, plastic spoons, forks and household irons as props. ;)

I started adding more details to the hull. This time some plating to make the texture more interesting. I try it out with pen on the model and will add the things I like to the template.

I have the idea to turn one of these into a retractable boarding ramp (but for that I would need some kind of interior...) and one at the underside into a cargo lift.

Another thing on my to do list is the aft section, the engine block so to speak. The in-game model has more details there. Much tubes and thingies. I want to incorporate more of them into the model. At this scale it is still possible.

When I am done with that I would be happy if someone from this forum could act as beta tester:wave:

Yes, that is the plan. As black or dark grey lines to mark the plating boundaries. Then you could put the plating together as a "jigsaw" like I did on the Solo Falcon. Some of them you could also raise or leave out as recessed
For a tiny model you sure have and are continuing to put in a LOT of tiny details. My temptation when building this model would be to double the size then greeble everything to the max.

The hand drawn lines gives this model a hand built feel that suits it so properly. ;)

Yes, it looks nice. But for this model I'm gonna draw the lines in a vector graphics software.

But a completely hand drawn model is a good idea!

Idea for a boarding ramp:

Needes some kind of door frame for a magnet or somthing to be able to close it
Recommend a small magnet on the inside near the top of the opening, add a tab, glue to the top edge on the door inside, add another layer of glue onto the tab, then sprinkle iron filings onto the glue. Once the glue is set, add another layer of glue and then color to whatever color you need. Maybe use a silver marker for the aluminum look.

Yes, something like that was on my mind. The boarding ramp will give way to a smaller entry door leading to a small airlock. The ramp needs to be big like in the picture, to reach the ground, approximately 2m below (to fit the cargo elevator on the underside of the hull). The actual door behind the retracted boarding ramp will have 2,5mx2m or so

With the uss voyager finished, I can finally return to design my own models.
First I want to finish the Kea.
In this third iteration I incorporated the hull surface details that I sketched with a pen on the second build.
I am still not satisfied and will further improve and add surface features but until now it looks like this:

I invented a boarding ramp on the port side and a cargo elevator on the belly, up until now just texture (in the far future I may make then functional...).
I "invented" those features because in the game model there is no such thing. You just fly the ships in space. But I thought it will be a nice detail.

I designed the two small antenna dish thingies on the forward pointing wing egdes (also present in the original game model).

1000020732.jpg

I tried to adapt the somewhat open engine section at the back. The teladi ships in the games are rather for trade than for fighting and they are designed in a manner of optimizing for hauling cargo, stripping the vessel of unnecessary weight.
On that scale it is hard to adapt all the chaotic piping and wiring. I still have to improve that part.

I designed retracted landing gear (with small metal plates underneath the surface for attachable landing legs with magnets). Also not present in the original game model
1000020735.jpg

I improved the attachment of the wings. In the last version it was inner edge of wing superglued to the side of the hull.
Now I use an overlapping tab on the underside of the wing that gets inserted into a cut on the side of the "atmosphere engine". That way it is securely attached with the use of normal glue
