Hey, we weren't supposed to cheat!! :confused: Photo "magic" sorta skewed things a bit, didn't it? :(
#7 was pretty obvious, and #10 fooled me with the depth-of-field, but #9 looks like a plastic forklift driver, in a modelled scene with a photo backdrop, starting at the line in the concrete floor just to the viewers' side of the parts bins in front of the trains. :wink: While all of the others were well-done, there were obvious giveaways in each.

You didnt think I was going to let you have obvious photos in all of them, did you? I mean number two was a give me. I had to have some hard ones in there. :)

I took a gamble that you would try to put one over on us and they'd be all models.

In #7 there is a tree that looks a lot like miniature cassia. I didn't think real trees grew that way. In #9, the forlklift and driver looks a bit plastic. And as I said, #10 looks miniature enough to be real, but decided that the sign didn't look quite right. Maybe that's because I can't read French :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

#10 was the only one that suprised me,its amazing how he changed that to make it look like a model,it really amazed me.we should have threads like this more often,it was pretty cool.--josh

French?:confused: On the site, it says that picture was taken in Southern Cross Station in Melbourne, Australia. Do you know something I don't? Well, actually that's a given... I'm sure you've forgotten more than I'll ever learn but do they really speak French in Melbourne? :mrgreen::mrgreen: All in good humor EZ!
#10 was the only one I really was confused on 'cause the colors were so vibrant like a model, there were no people, and there was some very convincing garbage near the rails in front of the trains in the foreground.

It was very obvious that these were built by the French, and in tribute to that, they printed all the signs in French.:rolleyes: :rolleyes: It takes a sharp eye to see thatsign1 sign1
 
They're all real......
REAL good modeling(except 7&9,which are REAL prototype pics)....
REAL good use of natural lighting, placement in a REAL world, for background effect(1,4,5,eight)(hmm, for some reason when I type the number eight, it posts a smiley),
and They all are REALLY good photography.
I REALLY liked them.
 
First, the modelwork was superb!, yes, there were giveaways in most of the photos, but the attention to detail, staging, and lighting were just spectacular. "Bravo Zulu".
#7 I would have stuck to my belief that this was a case of the loco, and the track it is on, being a model, merged with a real background scene. There is just something about the way the light reflects off the nose, and windshield frame. Also the ballast on the loco's track doesn't match the shade of the unoccupied tracks, and there is a very sharply defined "point of change" between the loco track's ballast, and that of the unoccupied track. The last car of the train, looks "closer to the viewer" than the scenery around it.
Believe nothing of what you read, and, with the technology of the day, very little of what you see.
 
Some tips for the observer. When you wish to ascertain whether an image is real or of a model, look at either how any visible wires (electrical, telephone, etc.) hang, or the delicacy and complexity/density of the smallest details.

Wires always display a certain amount of sag, they are never absolutely straight from pole-to-pole. Fine detail in the real world (grass, gratings, railings, leaves, etc.) are alway distinctly several levels finer, or more delicate looking, in reality than as represented in modeled scenes, unless perhaps it is a shot of a true museum-quality diorama.

Using those premises, you'll never be fooled, no matter in what manner an image has been manipulated. I wasn't fooled for a moment by any of the images presented here (although I certainly will agree the modeled ones were done in a excellent manner), as you can see by my original post. It's all very easy if you just approach it in the right way.

and before I'm subjected to reading pages 2 and three...
#3 I took for being real, though at an amusment park or something. (very large model, is that a viable guess?)
#4 took a double take, followed by awed staring.
#7 better be real! The telegraph posts and some of the soil looks just a bit unusual, but the amount of visible sky, the reflection of the sun off the bullnose, and even MORE sky reflected in the right window say it's real. The close rail joiners and airborne dust/fumes seel the case.
#8 has only some unidentifiable discrepancy in those trees to suggest it's a model. And I'm still not entirely convinced it isn't real.

The rest I feel to be models, but the fact these images are about 2 foot wide when projected onto my far wall makes it a little easier.

(The fact that even with a 2 foot wide image, some of those took a doubletake REALLY says something.)

*edit* okay, now that I've read the answers...
I still believe #9 may be a mock-up, shown on thier site for demonstration purposes.

#10 is cheating. Had you posted the unmanipulated photo, I think I still would have ventured towards a very nice model. But with the addition of details via imaging software, any of those models could have been altered to appear real, and even number 7 could've been a model, with details added.
 
So what your saying is the pictures are great photos and the models that are presented there are accompanied along with some nice real shot! :)
