Is there a SeaQuest?

I do not think that there is a paper model template for the SeaQuest DSV. I remember that there were a few members talking about it. However, because of the complex curves of the ship, it would be very difficult to make. WIth that being said, I think that the project was dropped.

I couldn't make the shape of the ship and I watched the whole series! The link below had the most thorough information I've ever sen on that ship. ;)

That's a great site! Lots of cool detail. I didn't realize that the show had such a devoted fan base.

I found a 3D model online, in stl format, but when I tried converting it to png or jpg, I was not very successful.

I'm wondering whether I cold get it converted into parts, like in Pepekura, then hand paint the exterior...just a thought...

IF you are familiar with Sketchup, this might help you turn the .stl file into a Sketchup file:

I don’t, but I will learn!

I have a program on my Mac called Sketchbook…I’ll try that first.

Then I’ll look at your path and use my PC at my office if not.

I appreciate the suggestion. I need to learn to CAD so I can do this stuff myself. I have Pepkura on the PC but never learned to unfold; only to open files.

It’s time to push myself and this is a good cause!!!

Thanks!

Great to hear that you are going to learn to design this model. Im looking forward to see your progress. And if you have any questions we are here to help you.

When you are working with compound curves it is easier to start with a very basic and simple shape, like a hexagon. Push and pull it to shape and when you are satisfied start adding faces by subdivision, drawing new lines or such.

That’s a good idea!

There was a fella who did a thread of that technique a couple of years back…

If the internal structure was built with wire and mesh , and the skin wet to shape, maybe the paint job could be accomplished with watercolors and ink pen?

This would not work for my colleague though; the activity requires instructions and a measurable process…

So back to converting an stl file into a png, jpg, or pdf, then writing the instructions…

I would make internal formers of the model, fill in the spaces, then cover the framework with moist paper, using tension on each part to make a smooth surface. You would have to plan on using filler and a lot of sanding. ;)
