    My Z-Scale SD45

SmolderZ, I thought static ship models in 1/700 and 1/1200 scale were crazy (and I build them occasionally). Z scale operating trains must be completely over the top. It's so cool that you are modeling Z and doing it seriously. I do BIG SCALE (well compared to your stuff) I do N scale!

    Masking for stripes, etc.

Arlaghan is absolutely correct, this is the best way to do it. Also, a trip to the hobby shop is in order. Get youself some Tamiya masking tape. It comes in a little plastic case (that keeps the edges from getting fuzy). It may seem a little pricey, but it is worth every penny. It is low tack so...

    Can steam power return?

Steam power will never return to the rails because GE and GM don't make steam locos. Period. Near the end of the steam era, some company (the name escapes me) developed a steam turbine / electric locomotive. It burned powdered coal which is highly efficient and burns completely leaving almost no...

    Con-Cor Heavyweight help!

Here is a link to the Con-cor website. They sell trucks and couplers there, the shipping may be a bit steep so you may want to order a few things. When you first get on, hit the "roundhouse" link and then the "N scale parts" link. Tha passenger car trucks are near the bottom of the page. They...

    Removing & installing decals

I have had success using solvaset and then a pencil eraser. Use the pencil eraser very lightly. Also (and this could be risky) dab a small amout of Scale Coat Wash Away (a great stripper to use on plastic). Let it set for a few seconds then wipe it off. However, use these methods at your own...

Any repowering ideas for an Athearn GP38-2?

North West Short Line used to exclusively carry Sigami motors. They started having many quality problems with them, so many that the returns were ridiculous. NWSL no longer carries the Sagimi motors but rather, makes their own. Perhaps the Sagami motors aren't what they used to be.

    Playing around

As you know Val, I'm rebuilding my small N scale railroad so I am going through the same thing. There is something about new slabs of plywood that stirs something inside every model rairoader. It's a very exciting time and a frustrating time all at once. I LOVE it. Looks like it's coming along...
