    Alligator Search

Tiger Valley hinted that they might do an Alligator but never did. The other designations for this loco would be RSD-15 or DL600B. At one time AC Gilbert (American Flyer) made these units. Some were also made in brass.

    $50 HO Box Car?

Well, I must say, Mike and Rich, you both do fantastic work and are very inspiring. Don't stop selling on Ebay. If you are getting these higher prices then go for it. If you are posting them starting at $20 each and they hit $180, then that is the market value of your work. Take it while you...

    Painless Ballast

Also Val, put electrical tape on the bottom of the point section of your switches with the sticky side up. Put the edges on either side of the throw bar. Turn the switch upside right and dump ballast in there. Tamp it down with your finger then flip it upside down and shake the loose ballast...

    $50 HO Box Car?

I'm quite sure that this car was done by a Gauge member called Mello Mike. His stuff is incredible. I had to look pretty hard to determine if his stuff was actually a model. $50? Worth every penny and more. This guy is a true artist with a keen eye for detail. His equipment is not just...

    Awesome industrial photos

Excellent site Val. It says the guy is from Aachen Germany. This was the first town in Germany that the Alies entered during WWII. After the bombing and fighting there was nothing left. These photos must be from prior to 1945. Good bit of research I must say, great photos.

    Downtown laneway

Looks fantastic Val. Your artist side shines brightly here. It's not just one aspect either. The modeling, positioning, details, and the composition of the photo all come together to make a fantastic photo.

    Snow please help

I have had success with the Woodland Scenics stuff. Make your contours with plaster, clay or whatever you normally use. If you are modeling shallow snow, paint the surface the color it would be without snow (a field of grass..green..and so on). Then paint on a thin coat of white glue and...

    Help w/Floquil Paint

Thin the paint a little more and use a hair dryer on it. If the model is plastic don't hold the dryer in one place too long. One other suggestion, try Polly scale or Badger Model flex. I'm a professional custom painter and use them exclusively. I thin the Polly Scale with water and add a little...

Nickel Plate Products Erie K-1 Pacific

I'm doing this Erie K-1 for Lackawanna Jim. It's getting done as it appeared in the 1950's. At that time the loco shops knew that these steamers' days were numbered. They really began to take great care of them. The walkway edges were painted aluminum, the window frames were pained red and the...

    MT vs. Accumate Couplers

The real ones are body mounted. MT cars all have holes for the screws to hold body mount couplers. All you need to do is to tap it for a 00-90 screw. Intermountain cars also have this feature. Some Atlas cars have a dimple where you need to drill and tap the hole. If you buy the MT 1015 couplers...

    MT vs. Accumate Couplers

On my small railroad, I need to do allot of backing up into staging tracks. I found that the truck mounted couplers cause many derailments when pushing around curves. To combat this, I tried body mounting couplers on a few cars and had excellent results. My tightest radius is 11" and the body...
