    Signal Aspect Question

Hi, All. As a retired engineer for NS/CR, IMO, prototypical signals are sufficiently complicated that few modellers would attempt to reproduce more than the look of a working system. Your set-up situation in ABS territory should result in a RESTRICTED (RED/YELLOW) or STOP & PROCEED (RED/RED)...

    Info Needed Regarding Sn2

Only15, Hi, and welcome! My head is a little off on this one...Sn 2 is 3/16":1' scale, or 1/64 actual size - the 2(foot gauge) is close to N scale track gauge, yes??? We might be talking N scale mechanisms with S scale superstructures, for convenience sake. There are very few prototype 2'...

Where are the Great Young Model Railroaders?

No Great young MRRs ? Just my $.02 through now-clouded memory; who were the Great Young Model Rails of 40 or 50 years ago, when I got seduced into scale models by a 40+ year old uncle? Most of the modellers in MR and RMC were 30- or 40-somethings with good monetary circumstance or connections to...

    On Track, with Deano

Hey, Deano ! That's the FIRST doghouse I've seen on a Vandy tender ! The PRR and N&W had lots of 'em , and with STEAM & electricity both available nearby, would expect heat, though I have no FIRST-HAND knowledge. Believe PRR got some Y-3s also, and likewise used them in drag/ helper service...

    A railroad museum in progress

Bernhard, Thank you so much for the show photos !! The US Modular is stunning - excellent modeling (and modelers, though some of them could use a little more weathering !), and most impressive German RRs, loved the station with the Newly-weds on the platform (is that narrow gauge ?), and the...

Russ and All, have been having major slowdowns and lockups since November - but ONLY on Zealot wall1 ...and I visit other forums which use V.bulletin (eg. Trainboard), without these problems. Never had issues prior to Nov. with same computer/OS/Browser on Zealot. Reported to Admin via Google...

    New Haven Bridge

Eighty-Eight - Nice to find such a reminder of history...any thoughts on the brick/siding/hip roof structure to the right in the North view ? Just looked like neat window framing on the first floor - could be old, can't see it that well - looks like a home now - could it be a re-purposed ex-RR...

    Pronouncing the word "Geep"

jbaakko, you think like Steven Wright ! Never heard of "SeeD"s, but we called them SD80-MAC (mack),though M-A-C was understood even by NS management. On another term, "Tracks Ahead" host,Spencer Christian ALWAYS refers to Kayto (KAH-toe), if that confers authority. I always thought it was...

    Gondola's?

:wave:Welcome to "The Gauge", csiguy. More gons downriver at Natrona and West Tarentum - not nearly as many as a few years ago, and most pretty thoroughly "weathered". The Boss of the KJRR is on here somewhere and will probably say "Hi" when he sees your location. Enjoy and learn from this...

    Gondola's?

Hi, All. Maybe wrong but I' sensing a mis-conception. The coal "Gons" we're talking about Look like and have the structure and capacity of "Hoppers", but don't have the slope sheets and bottom dump doors that gave the cars the name - correct, Larry? They may also be used for other commodities...

    Why So Many Diesels?

Rob, Hi. According to the local club The Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum ,during the Christmas Open House (Fri,Sat,Sun, mid Nov. to mid Jan), wear on the steam is a major consideration, so Friday is Steam Nite, Diseasels Sat.& Sun. Tracking reliability is probably #2, as its a large...

What do we hope to see in 2008???

My "NEW "N" '08 is that GHQ (or someone) would produce boiler/cab exchange for more mechanisms (4-6-0, 2-8-0,2-10-2,etc.) for PRR (and/or other road specific steam), so I can switch scales without nano-assemblers to build my engines ! Seems like there might be a market, maybe! HAPPY NEW...

custom decals - a helpful tip

HI,Val ! Thanks for the non-opaque info. Is this why the "ALPS" printers are so capable?(IF you can find one, and materials). Would special "Photo" inks,as used in some photo printers,be any beter for a like situation, as they're meant to adhere to "glossy" media? Thanks. Bob C.
