road width?

What is a good measurement for the width of a two lane road in N scale? I was gonna find out on my own, but I would rather not stop traffic to take a measurement.

I'm sure i read somewhere that for the UK on average 29-30mm would be an accurate reflection of a "1up 1down" road. Don't know if this is of any help to you?

For most places, standard lanes are about 12' wide. Adding 2'- 4' feet on each side for shoulders give you about 2.25" in N scale if my math is correct.

Really depends on the type of road (highway v. local, urban v. rural). The 12' lane width is a good rule of thumb, though older streets usually have 10' lane widths, and modern highways around 14'.

I typically "compress" my roads a bit to save space...usually figure on about 1/2 - 3/4" per lane, and pretty narrow shoulders.

I also tend to be a bit skimpy with the roads (it persuades people to ride the trains) and make them just a bit wider than enough for 2 cars.
