Railfanning in my backyard

Well, almost.
Now that I'm retired, like DoctorWayne , I can enjoy railfanning daily. The CN track ,coming from the Taschereau yard, is about 50 meters from my home. I do my daily exercise ( walking or bicycling ) along the track and in the area. I'm almost sure to see a freight train if I go there about 10:30 AM.
I always bring my camera. I like that place because it's very quiet.
On thursday, I was not the only one railfanning as you can see from that picture.

In 1980, my parents bought a house about 50 m (or less) from some railraod tracks -- it was the CASO. Back then, about 2 freight trains went by every day. My Dad got to know them so well they once gave him a ride when they were doing maintenance work!

This house was also on "Hornby" street, so anyone who is into British trains would be amused by that. (FYI, Hornby is one of the biggest British model railway manufacturers and my Dad was into British trains as well.)

You are right Rob, that spot is a good place to relax and to railfan.
This morning I caught not 1 but 2 trains in about 30 minutes, and I was very surprised to see 1 Illinois Central as a helper.
You gave me an idea, I'll suggest the Montreal t city council to rename my street. Boulevard Atlas or Boulevard Peco doesn't sound bad.

Great pics! I've also seen some "foreign" power on the CN line near my work. I've seen BNSF and UP.

My Dad was also amused by the village of Hornby, which is just off the 401, west to Toronto. Now, my family & I often drive through it (on our hiking trips into the country) and my wife is tired of me pointing out the Hornby connection every time! :mrgreen:

Very valuable information Triplex. Now I have a good reason to purchase a IC engine.

That GP38 needs a serious paint job. I see that engine several times a week. I can take good pics of it because it comes off slowly out of the yard and stops at 2 signals.

Some good selling point for a railfan's house might not mean anything to the average Joe.

I got CP rolling past my back yard but I havent' been able to get pictures yet. The kids love watching the trains roll by though.
