Designing the Ebon Hawk from scratch (or die trying)

Blender is an excellent program. If I didn't have so many years vested in Rhino, and so few left in life, I might learn it. I just picked up Rhino 8 as my Godson got it for the educational price. He wants me to teach him. $195, if you have a student buy it, and it's the same as the full version, it is the full version, just made affordable for students. We're all students of some soft.

All you need for the educational license is a kid who is a student? Let's say, when one of my children goes to university (or school?) I show rhino vendor that proof and can get it?
Does it also work for german students?
 
That ship always looked"off" to me... Loved it though.
Yes, they really created an iconic shape. Clearly took inspiration from the millennium falcon, the half saucer aft and the asymmetrical design. But for me, when I played it as a kid, it was always that noticeable cockpit section, with that impressive "forehead". Like the head of a sperm whale with all that navigational and communications instruments in it.
 
Redesigned the narrow joint section between aft saucer and front modules.

The port module fits and now has the proper z-axis offset. It is a little bit lower than the middle of the aft saucer:

A little bit of grey board to stabilize the model, especially the core parts, are necessary. I tend to add even more grey board here and there in all my builds, cause I like my models sturdy.

Here now with the ebon hawk grey board is essential to achieve the recessed cockpit window. At least with the method I use. I think it is easier to recess that window using board layer than create some difficult to fold "recessing part".

It is a bit of extra work with all that board cutting and trimming until it fits ...

... but it sure pays off, in my opinion.
There are some seams on the edges now. I did not account for the plastic window thickness, but it can be patched up later with plating detail of the hull.
 
I continued with designing the parabola shaped side pieces of the cockpit section

and the connecting part starboard side, which houses the boarding ramp (I will design the ramp and entrance later).

I am not quite happy with the outcome of the connecting part. I will redesign it, involving the parabola part, not separate from it
