Shirt sleeve weather. 60's tomorrow and Sunday. Mother Nature is really taking care of the Yanks for me. :thumb: Back to the store. Been crowded all day. Chargers seling great. Checked with the gang at the other BPS stores and they are dragging. Just ate lunch. Was so busy I did not realize it was after noon. Later

Time flies when you are having fun Chief. Are you in Charlotte? That is where I lived as a very young kid.

Good afternoon everyone. Spent the morning in the greenhouse. Sowed seed for my main crop of pepper and tomato plants.

Our local RS is just as bad as the rest. Never see the same employees twice, and I go in there every couple of weeks, at least. And yes I know the drawers better than they do. All they want to sell you is cell phones and service.

Jeffrey, which locos are getting the new decoders? Sound also?

Mikey, I didn't think you were old enough to remember tubes. Some of the electronic stores used to have DIY tube testers back in the day. Don't think RS started to expand yet when that was a big thing. Used to mail order from them back in the 50's when they had just one store, Boston if memory serves.

Doug, 3 of my grandchildren are home schooled, 3 in public school and 2 are still to young. The oldest of the home schooled will soon be 15 and hopes to graduate when she is 16. Looking at colleges already.

Don, Did you try All Electronics for banana plugs? I got mine from Mouser, they have some really heavy duty ones. Part #530-108-0303-1 is the black one. I think they are rated at 15 amps.

No sound on these decoders. They're Digitrax DZ125's. They have only 2 functions. They're made for Z scale so they'll fit ANYWHERE in an HO loco. The decoders are rated for 1 amp, 2 amps peak. I'm putting them into my team of Athearn BB F7's, an A-B unit set.

Since I lurk around here EVERY day I thought it only fair I tell ya'll a little about myself. I have been interested in model railroading for 20+ years. My husband & I will have been married for 23 years this April. We love to camp in our RV & enjoy stargazing when weather permits.
I started a layout right after we got married but along came a baby & that was the end of that. One daughter sure can take up a lot of space. She has now grown up & moved out so my husband is letting me have her room for my layout. Well actually he didn't object when I said I was going to do that so I took that as an OK. I still have to clean out & pack up a lot of stuff in the room so I am still in the planning stages. I am going to be using ho guage. I got a new controller for Christmas. I will be using dc for now because I do have a few dc engines & of course my new controller & I just think it will be easier to wire for me right now. I may upgrade to dcc later. I will be modeling a freelance railroad. I am basing my plan on #28 from 101 Track Plans & would like to base the scenery on Kentucky/Tennessee area. I want a coal mine & a logging industry. I only know enough about railroading to realize I sure have a lot to learn. When I finally get started I will post pictures. My husband will build the benchwork for me. I think I will be using foam for my base like Trainnut. I will use Atlas code 100 flex track & Peco turnouts. I love shay's. I will model the 1900's to 1940's.

Very interesting week. I have been assigned to a project where we are going to build a industrial facility. The new facility is situated on 276 acres and will have about 6 miles of rail. We will double switch off of the mainline.

Chief...So the Oinker is up to his old tricks posting something that is wrong and then after someone calls him on it going back making the change. He then belittles the person that calls him out. Been there, done that.
 
Mike/John I remember all that, you use to be able to by some kits and had some neat stuff at RS. Those tube testers also where everywhere, markets, drug stores, you name it. Now I see some tubes being sold at swap meets as collectible items. Still remember the old electronic classes, tubes made it easy to understand how a lot of todays devices work. With the grids, suppressor grids, cathode, plate, you get the idea. What's so great about all this doping stuff anyway. Gave us the disposable society.

Yup -- sure do!!! A friend and I used to repair televisions and radios :) in the mid 70's (we also did "CB" Installations) :D :D

We used and abused the radio shack tube testors :) :) They always had the best prices locally for tubes and other electronic items. :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:
 
Marcie, Welcome to the Coffee Pot. If you have been lurking, I guess you know we have people running all gauges here. Way back when, I used to be in HO gauge, but started in 3 rail O when I retired. HO equipment has greatly improved since I was in the scale. Some really nice shays available now. :thumb:

Doug: The PW 6460 is the 8-wheel counterpart to the 2460 12-wheel crane. Same upper section, should work on the O-27. SHould be able to find one reasonable. The 6419 is the work caboose.

Slow day today. Submitted application for pre-school. Found out Old Pastor is in Florida for 2-weeks. I'll drop off registration at office, and see what happens.

:wave: Been gathering stuff for a yard sale but saw an add in local paper about Southpointe market(consignment, flea market and auction house all in one place) offering a 10x10 spot w/table for $15 a day this weekend as they are having an indoor "garage sale"

I will be there on saturday noon till all is gone or 6pm among the junk I will try to sell are a ton of hobby magazines(train, computergaming, electronics) some books scifi, mystery and one western. Lots of large pants size 50 up to 56 some large shirts 2x and 3x one 4x t-shirt and misc. stuff nolonger needed.:shock::mrgreen:

Southpoint market is in old k-mart building at the intersection of S. Highstreet and williams Rd. For all those in the Columbus area.

Sorry for the commercial and hope I have not broken any rules on this forum:confused:
 
Welcome Marcie. I guess you know you have to love sweet ice tea and grits to survive not being picked on by me. :eek::twisted: Welcome. Spare bedroom and walkin closet is where my layout is [as all the kids are now gone].

Long day at the store. Sold tons of chargers. Ate caned dinner and now popcorn. 12 hours at the store means come to hotel and relax. No going to restaurant this late. Good night.

Cleaned the walks again today another 2/3 inches of you know. Feb snowfall this year made #5 on the detroit snow list. I also did some train room cleaning need more storage space. never thought that would happen.

Highway was shut down by an accident this morning, adding to the fun of getting to work, so I ended up working until about 5:30. Somehow, I got signed up for OT tomorrow. Need to order John Bull tomorrow for cheap price at LHS, or might order online... Then I can order for another month and get better price really. Guess I need to decide soon.

Welcome Marcie! I had HO for a short while, but now running O. Really like the looks of old tinplate standard gauge too though - maybe one day have some too....

Was somebody asking about Chewy here or somewhere else? She is fine, but needs another trim and grinding on the dew claws as I think she was chewing on them again. No more birds - wife hates birds.... Never get another one as good as old Tai Tai anyway. What a great little pet. She would call for me and then fly around the house until she found me and ride on my shoulder all the time. She used to even sit up on the shower rod and watch me get cleaned up in the morning for work. I cried like a baby when she died and I was over 25 then.... Just a big baby I guess.
 
Doug: Look into the Lionel Burro Crane. I think you'll like it. It has some action to it, and it can just roll around the tracks.

I think this will work well in scale (size) with the Thomas offerings. The others are O-27, and may look out of place.

Or, just wait a bit...I'm sure Lionel will make Cranky and/or Harvy, and possibly even Rocky soon!

Good Morning everyone! Marcie, thanks for the condolences and the introduction. Always great to have input from the fairer gender. The fact that I am posting this early is testament to the fact that I have an emergency case to do and have just finished setting up. I hate when one hospital will sit on a patient all week, and when the weekend comes, they transfere and the patient needs to be done right away. Just shows that it does matter where you go.

Chief, glad things worked out for you there. It sounds like your company will be happy with the results. Get back to your other job soon as someone needs to keep the school board in line. The rest of the town for that matter.

Father in law is coming down today, but I will be here for some time. Today is the kids first day of Chinese language class. I hate to miss it. I will go home, get a report, and then hopefully after the company is gone, enjoy time with the wife and kids. Maybe we will all work on the layout. It takes longer to do, but it is worth it.

The Bucklesseye will be searching the outer space for TV reception while the Chuckster is watching NASCAR guys chase their tails around a circle. :rolleyes: The OLD man in CA will probably have the shakes while the Yanks around the great Lake MI will shovle snow all day. :thumb: Later

Welcome, Marcie - I used to be N scale before Lionel. A Tenn. coal branch layout sounds neat. I am always inspired whenever I drive I-75 through Ky and Tn.

Buckeye, that sounds like a big project. Are there tenants already for the industrial area or are you building new.

Kurt, thank you for the references to the 6460 and burro crane. I just saw a real Burro in the small UP yard in d'twn Crystal Lake.
