card models in your layout

I was looking around the forums this morning and noticed something neat. I saw this thread by RichBohlman, and thought this would be a great example of the potential for crossover between the card modelers and model railroaders. In that thread, and some of his other threads which I'll list below, I think there's a lot of inspiration for anyone building a layout to consider card models.

Our own Robin (see http://forum.zealotmodels.com/f267/) would have identified himself as a model railroader first, but he definitely knew how to make the most of the card stock he had on hand - cereal boxes, corregated card, paper, or what-have-you.

I think many of the card modellers may be inspired by his work as well...!

Nice crossover (or is that X-over...?) Maybe there should be a corresponding thread called "A Layout to go with your Card Models" :thumb:

Rich's work inspired me and I'm starting exactly the same structure in N scale. So far I just glued the 4 walls together, so I don't think it's ready for a picture yet.

Yea, that's nice too. You could spend hours going through the stuff the card modelers have done.

Several of us built the scalescenes.com card freight house back in the spring. That thread can be found here. I definitely think there is room for materials other than styrene and wood in this hobby and need to spend some time looking around the card modellers site for inspiration.

It looks like model railroad related card models are more popular in Europe than in North America.
