    Microsurgery anyone?

Here's a MicronArt model of an 1896 Oldsmobile Runabout - the first mass produced automobile in the United States. 1. The size of the pieces (N scale by the way): 2. The model, as it stands so far. I still have a lot of work to do on it. (I had to buy some watchmakers tools.)...

    4X the blabbermouth?????

I'll bet you blabbermouths have a pile of dishes in the sink, laundry strewn across the house, lawn overgrown, bills unpaid, phone disconnected, and one can of tuna fish. :D

So you want to build the layout of your dreams

Sounds like a plan, but next time could you not post blue lettering on a blue background.   As far as catalogs go, start out by getting a Walthers catalog - most hobby shops have them, and they go for about $20. You'll get lots of ideas and enthusiasm just leafing through it.

    My new Taco!

Very nice, but it's too shiny. You need to weather it a bit with some grimy black and an airbrush.

    New BiPolar Capacitor-Discharge Controller

Two questions out of curiosity: what's the total output voltage and how many turnouts can it power at one time?

    egyptian model railroading

Hey, good luck to you! You'll find plenty of friends here that are always excited about model railroading.

    Is this enough mainline?

If you go N or Z scale, you'll get a lot more mileage! If not, then staging areas are definetely the way to go.

    egyptian model railroading

Very interesting! I also didn't know that model railroading was popular in Egypt. I hope you can find some track for those engines. Please post some more pictures when you do.

First pic: "Luke, I am your domanatrix." Second pic: engineers mutters to himself, "dangit, there goes that strange crunching noise again."

    Heading down to Cass Railroad

That looks like a lot of fun. Take a few close-up shots of the Shays for those of us who like to super detail.

    My Z-Scale SD45

Nice little engine, SmolderZ. I just bought a Z scale train set to fool around with while I build my N scale layout.

just some pics of my trains

Sorry Rich, it's still a no go. The link works for you if you're logged on to snapfish, but no one else here will be able to access it. Like I said, you can't link pics on snapfish to other sights.

Please help a new guy decide scale

Hi Jhoban, let me answer your questions one by one. The more experienced modelers can elaborate on them. 1. Do power packs from HO work on N? In general, yes. Power for track is generated by a direct current (DC), and can usually be transposed to any scale. The use of DCC requires modified...

    Apartment Layout

Zedob, I'm not big on operations myself, out of necessity. I'm more interested in the modeling aspects of the hobby. Yes, I can run-through trains, but that's not terribly important to me. In fact, I've spent the last month selecting (and buying and returning) building models for my industrial...

    Apartment Layout

Hey zedob, welcome to the forum! You have a most impressive start on your railroad. I'm also a NE railroad modeler, living in Boston. Your skills at carpentry and model-making are first rate, as evinced by the photos. I also live in a small apartment, and am forced to deal with space...

Please help a new guy decide scale

Wanna spend a small fortune and lay an enormous amount of track in a 4' by 8' space? Go Z scale.

    Weathering experiments

Dilute, dilute, dilute. Too dark and and you're screwed. I use a 50 to 1 solution of water-based acrylic paint in an airbrush. Depending on how weathered I want a car, I'll use between 10 and 20 coats. Remember to let each one dry before applying the next. It's damn tedious, but you get exactly...

    My latest baby...

I don't know how strong of an engine it is yet, but it won't have to work too hard. I've ordered a set of 4 Overton passenger cars with B&O colors to match. That's all it will have to pull.

    My first N layout

It looks great! Welcome to the forum. I would definitely ballast the track if I were you. If you go to a great deal of trouble creating scenery, you may end up being disappointed if the track is not ballasted, as it won't look prototypical. Cork roadbed is inexpensive and easy to glue down -...

    My latest baby...

This is an Athearn 2-8-0 Consolidation. It doesn't belong on my layout, but I take it out of the box and give it a good run around when the purists aren't looking.
