    How old are you? Revisited

I am very happy to see the number of younger people involved in this hobby. Those of us who remember steam locomotives constituting the majority of engines are happy to see the legacy carried on. Looks like this great hobby will be around for some time to come!

Hello, now is the time to introduce myself.

Welcome to the Gauge, Paul. Your obsession is a problem most of us have suffered with. I tried joining RR Hobbyists Anonymous, but found attending the meetings took too much time away from the trains. I finally decided that the affliction was incurable, so I have tried to make the best of...

Great Train Expo Show Novi, MI

I was there on Saturday also - I agree with your comments. I did find a few N scale goodies, but it took a lot of digging! Still, even attending a train show that is not the best, beats most other things!

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part IV

The wife and I spent the weekend in the Detroit area - attended a big train show on Saturday. Actually got some good buys on N scale automobiles and some rolling stock. As usual, most things are overpriced, but a lot of digging through bins paid off with a few really good deals. I was...

A fabulous night for an eclipse.

Nice shot, Mikey. It was clear and cold here, so it made for great viewing. Since it was 0 degrees here, I was thankful that I could see the eclipse through a window in my nice warm house!

    Grain cars

Thanks for the tips on the cars - I will check those models out and stock up on the older ones. I have to admit that I do get a little carried away with the radios - there is barely enough room in my 18' x 36' radio room for the N scale 4 x 8 layout. Thanks again.

    Grain cars

I know that for many years, grain was shipped in boxcars. I saw a picture on one of Dr Wayne's threads that had a boxcar modified with top loading hatches. I assume this was something done by individual roads. When would those modifications have taken place, and when did top loading gondolas...

So, what does your wife think?

I have been married nearly 44 years, and I have a real keeper! Over the years, she has: Encouraged me to buy a boat, and spent every available day on board with me, cruising and fishing. When I got in to amateur radio, she got her license, too and doesn't mind the towers in the yard. Encouraged...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part IV

It was 36 degrees when I went to bed last night - woke up to 7 degrees, high winds and below zero wind chill. Power went out at 3:30 this morning - not expected to be restored until late afternoon. My wife is on the phone trying to get all the elderly neighbors to come over and get warmed up...

    Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! I gave up making New Year's resolutions many years ago, but I do have a few wishes for the new year: 1. May our trains get through the year without derailing. 2. May we see as many or more of the great pictures posted on this forum as we had last year. 3. May your...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part III

Well, don't need a calendar here to tell the day of the week - if it is a Friday or Saturday, there is a storm coming! This will be the fourth weekend in a row. We should only get about 8 inches, but the wind off Lake Huron will cause a lot of drifting. Looks like another good weekend to...

    Dec 21st Weekly Photo Fun

Wayne, I hope that little Studebaker is still around - your Dad did a great job building that. I feel better now about my poor modeling skills - it is obviously hereditary!

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part III

Tom, that is one beautiful fire truck - I am afraid I will never see that kind of detail in N gauge! Christmas is over, so I guess I have no more excuses for not getting back to work on the layout. Have a few more buildings that need to be constructed, too, so it looks like it will be a fun week.

    Stoping by to say HI!

Welcome to the Gauge! ezdays is right - there are a lot of competent N scale modelers here, and even an incompetent one like me. This is definitely the place to find answers. I hope you visit often.
