Need drawings and plans of Shays

THere are some really beautiful models there. NAvigation is hard as I do not understand German, but I found the ship and the dragon. Are these kits to be bought, something that can be downloaded, or what?

Union Pacific Big Boy on Turns

Sure thing. I'm always looking for a reason to put that beast on a track. :)

Union Pacific Big Boy on Turns

I have a recent Big Boy. Yes it can handle 18" radius, and yes, you DEFINITELY want to keep lineside deatils low, or far away from the rails. The smokebox hangs almost a half-inch outside the turns (maybe more, I can measure it when I get home). If you like, I can take a couple pics of my...

    Hornby "00" on US Tracks

The closest to OO I have is an old Rocket engine and combine set. Yes it does fit HO scale, and (for this model only) seems not to overhang too far on the sides, but it is very obviously larger than "HO Scale" (meaning 1/87). I'll try to grab a quick pic of it compared to my Bachmann John...

After 8 years - it has begun

AHHHHHHH!!!! I KNEW this would happen. Get the ruler, my copy of Adirondack Railraods, and the measurements off my enginehouse. Getting ready to start working out a trackplan when BAM! my mind goes completely blank! Back to square one. Listing what I'd like to have on that side of...

    LGB power problems

Sounds like there is a short somewhere in the track. Run an Ohm meter across the rails to see if there is no resistance. ALso, if your track has a loopback or "Y" you may have to insulate part of it so there are no shorts. Michael

After 8 years - it has begun

Yeah, Kyna and her sister are only 7mos old, so they haven't learned to read yet. Which is just as well as they would promptly ignore any rules we HUMANS would try to put on them. I pulled out my old Rivarossi Cab-forward last night to run around the oval. Didn't get any pics, but less...

After 8 years - it has begun

Kyna wouldn't cause damage. But eventually the layout will be protected behind plexiglass so they cannot eat/defecate on the layout.

After 8 years - it has begun

Plywood added. L.C.&N.'s heisler runs by with a Lima promo car and a four-truck flat car. The great cat-goddess, Kyna, looks on with interest. http://www.dragonmnt.com/gallery/House-Work/Benchwork_6 Here is the Dragon Mountain Logging shay #2 pulling the same consist...

    Climax class-A drawings?

I have a spare set of MDC Shay trucks that were originally slated for a scratch-built HO scale climax. With the release of the Spectrum climax later, this is no longer worth the time to me, so I'm thinking of either an HO scale standard gauge class-A, or using them for an On30 class-A...

    Spoked wheels?

I'm looking for HO scale spoked wheels to use in Kadee archbar trucks, or in the trucks that came with the old Lincoln Funeral car. Does anyone have a line on spoked freight wheels? Michael

    Scary but fun

I tried "Blacken It" on some old Rivarossi siderods. ALl I can say is..."DON'T DO IT!!!". Instead of blackening, they corroded. THey look like a 50 year old battery terminal in a car. THankfully it was an old set that I had no use for (at the time - I'm crying over the loss now). I'd...

After 8 years - it has begun

After 8 years - it has begun - now ending It's been 8 years wince I was introduced (again) to this hobby. In that time, I've finialized what I would like to model, just never had the room or money. Well, both finally appeared, and after negotiating the removal of some riff-raff from the...

    Adirondack sawmill questions

I actually spent a couple summers in Cranberry Lake while taking classes at the Biological Station (not the Wanakena station, the other one at the opposite side of the lake). I learned of the Grasse River from the pilot of the Forrester (SUNY ESF's "troop transport"). He had the book...

    Adirondack sawmill questions

Don't know if these will help, but I have a book "Railroads of the Adirondacks" that talks about the Grasse River in the same area. It has sillhouett maps of the "footprint" of the RR facilities and the sawmills. http://www.dragonmnt.com/gallery/Grasse-River-Railroad/Conifer...

    What's a good color.....

Oh man. This is SO open to interpretation. I guess it's what kind of image you're trying to convey. Most straight benchwork I've seen is painted black or dark brown to reduce it's impact on any nearby scenery. Some have gone so far as to cover it entirely with black felt, or some other...

    MDC Shay Tip Sheet

Find a copy of Jeff Johnston's book: MDC SHay Handbook - (barnesandnoble.com has it for $17.95). It has ALL kinds of tips and tricks to use to make this a great runner, and a good looker. This book is far more helpful than even the MDC instructions. Also, try to find pictures of the...
