Info on "Der Adler" minitrix trainset

Not too sure by the picture, but I have an HO/OO version of the loco and cars at home. No box or people.

    Need Sides On My Benchwork

I think I have a slight advantage. THe room the layout is in has sloped walls/ceiling. By the time the "wall" is at shoulder height, it's in line with the front of the benchwork. My plan is to "museum" the layout. Build a floor to ceiling "front" with the plexi mounted in hinged doors...

    Educate me about AHM

I've thought of filing down the flanges on my mallets that way, but I'll pull the stock motor and run a shaft from a separate motor to the drive train. THat will keep the metal filings from fouling the motor. I've tried running my Rivarossi on code83. For the most part it seems ok, but...

    Stargate fans

Shaygetz- Which Battlestar do you say rules? I've watched both, but still prefer the original. THe new one is WAY to preachy for me. If they kill the Preaching, it would be EXCELLENT! Michael

    Track Plans

Same here. I found center line of the turn-outs by using some turn-outs. THe rest was drawn using a straightedge and a yardstick with a hole drilled at the 1" mark for a marker, and at the 19" mark for a nail.

    Engine stopping.

Actually, it sounds like either a short circuit (but no idea why so intermittant) or the breaker in your transformer popping. Maybe due to the load of the older motor? Have you made sure the track, wheels, and all contacts are completely clean? What kind of draw is the engine pulling as it...

    HO in cramped apartment

Why not a 4x8 sheet of plywood with a small "canopy" of plexiglass? That will protect the layout from dirt and bedding. Kind of like an under-bed coffee-table layout?

    Scratchbuild wannabe question

My scratchbuilt enginehouse is "inspired" by John Allen's, but all the measurements are based on my Mantua mallet. That is the biggest engine it was designed to handle, thus the doors were made slightly wider and taller than that engine so it will fit, but nothing larger. It certainly doesn't...

    Unknown Track Device

Depending on which direction this is set to derail. My suspicion would be if an idling loco *somehow* manages to become a runaway, this will kick them off the line before they foul the main.

    Shaygetz Site

OMFG Shay, you GOTTA post how you rebuilt that Cab-Forward! I've got one of those old beasts, and a couple old Riv 2-8-8-2 Mallet's (one of which was converted to a monster 2-8-8-8-8 triplex). Nice pics BTW. Michael

    oil

Axles and motor shafts get oiled (carefully!!! don't get oil actually IN the motor) and the gears should get gear lube. Can't get into specifics without know what engine you have. Mostly the rolling stock does not need to be oiled.

    4-4-0 Driveshaft?

If nothing else, I think a small hex nut will fit (I'll have to measure again to find out shich one). Just get a couple brass ones and solder them to a small piece of brass threaded rod, then spray the whole thing black. Otherwise, your best bet is ebay or a local train show.

    Steam Locomotive Help

Honestly, I haven't seen a factory smoking locomotive since the old "Texas Chugger". At least in HO scale. I remember seeing add-on smoke units in the Walther's catalog. Can one of these units be added easily to a Bachmann engine? (I don't plan on doing this as the Texas Chugger I have ends...

Union Pacific Big Boy on Turns

Yeah, even the boiler on my Mantua 2-6-6-2 swings a little wide on 18" radius. But that won't stop me from using it! In fact, my step-father-in-law has a video of a prototype steam engine running over the turn-outs at Steamtown. I can't remember for sure, but they had to run super slow or...
