Popped rivet on Mountain 4-8-2 Bachmann

Not to change the subject, but I've had great experience in the past with refurbished items. In fact, I've never had a problem with anything I bought repaired and guaranteed by the company. I own quite a few. The PC I'm using to type this for example: $3800 machine available new from Gateway...

Popped rivet on Mountain 4-8-2 Bachmann

My guess would be they keep usable parts to repair other locos, and tosses anything too time consuming, beaten up, faded, out of production, or customized.

Con Cor U-50 second hand price?

I'll take a look at it and repost if it's a modified / customized U50. It's not uncommon for the SP U50's to be reworded to more closely resemble the real thing. The original version made by Con-Cor was a conglomerate that combined elements of early models, late models, and the U50C. Southern...

    Curved/tamgent turnout?

This does allow allow for a straight route, and a constant curved route. It's all in the points. Just modify your geometry to allow a straight rail to form the point for your diverging route, and a curved rail for the constant. Only one rail ever does any work in your points.

Bachmann E-Z Track Turnouts (yay or nay)

If you want remote reliablility with sectional track, I would reccomend Kato Unitrack turnouts. Not as cost effective, but well worth the price. Remember, you get what you pay for in this hobby. Kato turnouts are also power-routing with live frogs by default, which also helps quite a bit...

Popped rivet on Mountain 4-8-2 Bachmann

Looks like the valve gear bound up or was out of alignment and struck it's mount. Possibly improper installation, possibly a small bur. It could be almost anything. Bachmann will probably tell you to send it to them, and in return you'll get a new loco. Pretty much their standard procedure...

    Circus

I don't know a source of the scenery items, off hand. However, I do know that Model Power makes Heavyweight observation and combine cars. Last time I checked their website, they were on clearance for dirt cheap prices.

    Opening a Hobby Shop?

Sorry, I know I'm not really on topic. I had one more thing to add though. Natural Lighting - get as much as you can. If that's not really possible, just try to avoid big swings toward oranges or blues with cheap lights. Lighting hues people aren't used to can drive them out of a store...

    Opening a Hobby Shop?

Looks like they opened it up a lot, to give a more comfortable feeling. Of course, this also improves visibility for the owners/employees, and allows customers the chance to notice the item on the next isle..."oooh, almost forgot that coupler...oh and they have the retooled tank cars..." It...

    Up crash

I doubt they'll cut them up. The locomotives did encounter quite a drop, but if you've ever lived in that area.... The ground is exceptionally soft and forgiving. I suspect the locos didn't sustain as much damage as most people think. They're probably just mud-packed with some superficial...

    Bachmann Baldwin?

I don't remember the seller, but there's an ebay store that deals in only Bachmann Spectrum products. Once Every two weeks, they list 40-50 locomotives on varying timed auctions and buy-it-now's. Their auctions never go over 5 days, and all start at $0.99. Most of their 2-8-0's go for...

    no head light (Kato 2-8-2)

I can't find the links right now, but if you search google for DCC installs on this... There should be 2-3 that show how to take it apart. That bad news is, the smoke box is one of the very last pieces you can removed from the body. My kind of luck. If I remember correctly, there is no easy...

Uintah 2-6-6-2 or Micro Ace 0-6-6-0 Help

Howdy Garth, Thanks for the info. It's quite coincidental you replied yesterday. Just yesterday, I received a package from Ted Brandon. :-D He and I have been emailing for a short while now. He sent me quite a bit of useful information on the mallet. Since Ted took a lot of the engineering...

    Bachmann Service

You're right, they're known for being sub-par performers. Lack of traction tires, and being relatively light for their size doesn't provide much in the way of pulling power. I believe there is an aftermarket traction tire conversion available. Would probably make quite a difference.

    no head light (Kato 2-8-2)

on the Kato Mikado, it's a small PCB that sits under the boiler weight and between the frame halves. If I remember correctly, It only has contacts on the top of the board. So you may want to make sure of 2 things. 1. Make sure the boiler weight is not shorting the LED or anything else on the...

    Bachmann Service

It's good to see Bachmann still honoring their Lifetime Guarantee. Due to their (mostly historic) horrible quality control measures, though... I often associate a quote from the movie Tommy Boy (1995) when thinking about Bachmann. "The reason why they have a guarrantee on the box is because they...
