    Brindza Mine #2

Thanks for the comments guys. Ralph, your wish is my command, here's a picture of the pier. :) It's not an ore pier it's a coal pier. As you probably recognize, it's a Walthers ore pier that has been lowered. It's the only structure in the scene that I didn't build. We're trying to...

Here's a view from the southwest. The red chimney on the right is the handle for the second lift-out. All the scenery for about five feet on either side of the mine scene is now complete and we're working on the foreground.

This view shows the completed scene right after it was put into place. It needs to be blended into the adjacent scenery.

    Brindza Mine #2

Here's a jump ahead to where I had most of the ground cover and trees down. There are some light spots where more scenery needed to be added. The tipple buildings go on top of the wood frames. This picture was taken at my house. Building this on the workbench made it much easier. The...

    Brindza Mine #2

Once all the hillside was shaped and a cardboard road was in place I covered it all with plaster impregnated gauze. The space in the middle is where the coke ovens were to go. They are modeled as being abandoned and overgrown. The plaster was painted before the ground foam went down. One...

    Brindza Mine #2

I built it as a diorama based on a piece of flakeboard (I think that's what it's called) I cut to fit the area. That allowed me to work on the scene at home where I had my tools and gave me much easier access to everything. I hot glued the cardboard scenery profiles and would later hot glue 1"...

    Brindza Mine #2

Here are some pictures I took during construction. The area between the two sets of track needed scenery. The plan was to have a coal tipple in this area.

Here's a scene I finished about a year ago on our club layout. The mine tipple is scratch built using styrene walls and roof, Grandt Line windows and doors and it sits on wooden piers. The outhouses are Grandt Line and the gray stone building is an ERTL kit. The retaining walls and coke ovens...

What is the best way on adding foilage, etc...?

Greg, I know you are anxious to get started and don't want to hear this, but I suggest you do some research before starting. There are several books and videos on making scenery. Go to Amazon and search "model railroad" and you'll find a pretty good listing. One book listed, "How to build...

I'm saving that picture, thanks for posting it. .:thumb: It's simple but it has character and could be just what's needed for a space on a module I'm building. George

    Caboose leaf springs

A couple years ago, I bought a pair of Bowser caboose trucks that had one leaf spring and one coil spring that were part of the casting. You may have to compromise and use them. Here's their site, if you want to look for them: http://www.bowser-trains.com/ George
