Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Dan - Thanks for the kind words. I am also (mostly) pleased with how the building looks. You mentioned that you were going to try build this shed again and improve on your last effort. Any progress to share or pictures to show? - Scott

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Haven't had much time in the last couple days to make much progress but I did get the doors installed. I love that the main sliding door actually opens .... ...and closes... The back door, unfortunately, is stuck in whatever position you glue it. Looks like my door is a bit too high for...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Galen - I also ran into the issue of the buttresses/end walls being a bit too thick. Unfortunately, I don't plan ahead and measure like you do. I cut out and test-fitted the roof today and found out that it doesn't fit! Since I don't see any way to thin the buttresses once they are installed...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Glen - I also bought 65 lb paper at our local office supply store. For the medium card (1 mm thick, for HO structure) I used cereal box cardboard (actually, from a mitre box but same kind of card). For the heavy card, you only need a 2 mm thick layer (not 4 mm) so 2 layers of cereal box...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

So last night my wife says, "So how long can that thing take you? It's only got 4 walls and a roof." Yea, that and 9 pages of directions to follow. Thanks for the link to the other forum, Dan. That's some nice work over there. I didn't think that your first attempt looked that bad, but...

    Another brain-teaser

I actually know this man. One day he took me to see his apartment and together we rode the elevator all the way to the 50th floor. But, he did mention how he usually had to get out at 12 and walk the rest of the way.

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Tomorrow, I'll try the glue stick. Today, it was basic white (Elmers) glue that must have been applied too thickly. It's been a long time since elementary school and I think I've forgotten how to cut and paste. - Scott

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Well, sure, you could do it that way, too. No, I hadn't even considered it. I'm going to build the shed following the directions, then I'll see if it needs the extra "oomph" that scoring the mortar lines might provide. But, man, there are a lot (!) of bricks on those walls. Think I used...

New Member znd layout photos FINALLY!

My first thought on reading this was "What do you mean the line isn't really prosperous - that's a fine-looking solid gold locomotive sitting on the rails!" ;) - Scott

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

I've been thinking the same thing about modifying the structure by making it longer and maybe adding a second level (an office?). I seem to recall that the scalescenes.com website had a section where you could download the raw building materials (that is, patterns of bricks or stones or...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Here are a couple of shots of the Thermo Ply sheathing I mentioned earlier. Overhead view of a large sheet lying on the floor. In one corner you can see where I cut out some pieces to use for this project. For scale, the black lines along the edges of the sheathing are ~3 inches apart...

I got it! Now I can get back to doing my real work. No, wait, it's quittin' time! - Scott

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

What a timely thread. I started building the same freight shed this weekend too (but no pictures to share :( ). Tip #1 is definitely a good one - I have several buttress pieces (step #6, a bit ahead of Ocalicreek's progress) that are definitely beveled. Once the glue on those pieces has dried...

    A Day at Strasburg

Thanks for the pictures! I spent Friday in Strasburg with my family (wife, kids, parents, sister) and we rode on the Strasburg Railroad. Unfortunately, the circus cars were not part of our train :( In addition to riding on the Railroad, we also visited the very impressive Railroad Museum of PA...

    Pupolarity Of The Hobby

I am one of those "getting back into the hobby after 15 years" people but I'm still only 32 now so I'm doing my part to bring down the average age of model railroaders. The limitations of space/income/time are certainly valid but there's also the matter of priorities. Folks will spend their...
