    industrial switching

Shortliner, Interesting layout, those crossings will give you a challenge :thumb: Bet you spent a fortune on those buildings, LOL :D I know some guys who started their switching areas by picking and building the structures and then arranging them how they look the best then run tracks to...

    300 piece kit..

CSX That's a great trick with the instructions especially on Walthers kits. I must have read the instructions a couple hundred times while putting together a HO Jordan Spreader kit and since I have 2 more to build I'm going to make good use of that one. Your trick on the sprues is good too but...

    Micro layout

Wow!! Tyson, It's been a while since I read the first post, I seriously thought you did this in HO, (guess that's a compliment.. :thumb: ) You could still add some junk even in N scale, just not as much. The shack in the picture is HO but there are some good details which you could copy in N...

    HO in cramped apartment

Custom I agree with what's been said, there are tons of published plans for 4 X 8 layouts. The tough part is deciding which one to build, (if you don't want to design your own that is). As far as construction and scenery let me recommend this: World's greatest hobby I'm giving this to a friend...

    Broken train from ebay...

3phase I had a similar situation, did your engine come with a parts list? If so, there is a part number for the handrails and a phone number for their parts department. I called them and they were real nice about helping, can't remember what the charged me so it must have been reasonable!! 2slim

    It's a woman's perogative.....

Val, I think you have a great plan unfolding here. I would like to share an experience I had with a similar previous layout, (mine didn't have the city penninsula, unfortunatly, would have been a great asset!!) anyway the main line on my old layout did the straight-curve-straight thing and I...

Planning for structures on track plan

Frank, You can usually get the building dimensions from a Walthers catalog or the building manufacturers website. Some manufacturers even print them on the packaging. I have rarely seen dimensions which explained on which side of the building a loading dock or doors are located so you may have...

    2 Q's about switches & DCC

Shaun, You use a 'buss wire' which is normally a 14 or 16 gage wire, (one each red & black). These come out of the booster and travel under the layout, under the track is the best place, and then come back to the booster to complete the circuit. Then you attach feeder wires, 20 or 22 gage works...

    Newer style cars (automobiles)

Clark Walthers is a good source, but I usually buy from this company;Truck Stop Models They have a good selection and are fairly priced and they don't take as long to get stuff from. All they carry is HO Automobiles, Trucks, Trailers and related accessories. 2slim :thumb:

    Polar Express: 2 thumbs up

Val, Went to see it last night, you're right one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The ice skating train was indeed near heart-stopping, I was very impressed with the animation of the train, very well done. Hope it makes it to DVD, I definately want this one!! BTW do you still hear...

Mainline laid but have a problem...

Bob, Does your loco have truck mounted or body mounted couplers? What about the cars? What is your curve radius? Without knowing the above I 'd say your curve radius is a little sharp for the loco when cars are coupled, (this can be worse on 6 axel diesels or larger steamers). 2slim

    Has anyone attempted...

CharlesH, Forgot to mention that Greg's cars are cast clear resin with seperate wheels, (also resin) they need to be painted and the wheels glued on, nothing too tramatic!! They are pretty reasonably priced too. 2slim
