    Help about Calgary

Hi Everyone, I have a request for some help. I'm off to Calgary in February (my wife got her film into the disability film festival (I'm very proud!! :) :) )) and I'm going to do a little railfanning while I'm there. (or museums, or railway clubs.) Does anyone have any advice or...

    Gauge Layout Party No 5

I'm going to commit to finishing the buildings and mountain at Colinport. I have some pics of where things are now that I'll try and post this evening. Basically there's a big white mountain and some partially assembled Mill buildings sitting up on blocks. Graham

    My new website

Hi Val, The site looks really great, very clean to navigate. By the way, it looks great in Safari, no problems with placement. Graham

It's MONDAY 1-10-05, weekend modeling accomplishments!

Well, I got a few hours in. Painted a bunch more Hydrocal onto my large mountain at Colinport on the railroad and sprayed the track and trackbed its preliminary black. Next step is to paint the mountain and to sort out the retaining wall. Graham

Operations scheme: I think I got it this time!

Excellent Answer.. I've been having a think about how to solve the problem and I'm not there yet!, When the NSN is more complete I'm going to give your ops method a try. I love the idea of some (controlled) randomness with the Dice (I used to teach game design so this naturally appeals...

Operations scheme: I think I got it this time!

Hi Ralph, Looks like a good system, I have question tho (I'm new to the whole operations thing). What happens if you have 2 cars to set out at an industry that has a 2 car capacity, and there is already a car there that doesn't require pickup? Graham

    Favorite N Scale Manufacturer

It used to be Kato hands down... however I think this has changed. I have no problem buying Kato / Atlas or Lifelike, it simply depends on the prototype locomotive you are interested in. Lifelike are a little bit behind but only for the reason that the locomotives are still a pain to convert...

    Chevy, Ford, or Mopar?

I have a few N scale steam loco's, the Kato 2-8-2 is very sweet but I've had problems with mine intermittently cutting out, plus it can't pull the skin off a rice pudding (no traction tires). The MDC 2-8-0 is a little Gem, It looks a little odd, I guess due to the era and also the tender...

DCC or DC to power trains

Having to juggle the needs of my faculty on a daily basis (I'm sure Val and any other educators out there will understand what this means!) I naturally tended towards a compromise for DC/DCC. I had a dual cab system set up and found myself with the opportunity and cash to get a start in DCC...

    DPDT switch question

One other caution with running DC /DCC on two seperate cabs. You have to be very careful not to have loco's cross between adjacent isolated sections when they're using different power systems. Graham

    DPDT switch question

I use Eric's method and have about 15 isolated sections and two throttles. This is what I understand to be called cab-control. It works really well (in fact I've double isolated each block (cut both tracks) and have DC on Throttle A and DCC on throttle B because I've only just started...

    CN & BC Rail

Just hop over the Bridge to NS Dawg!, not that I expect BCRail units out this far east until they're on thier last legs, then you'll no doubt find then switching in Dartmouth yard with paint worn off to the primer! Graham

    wet water

Honestly I've never had much luck with detergent and "wet" water. I always use 90% Isopropyl alchohol which I find works perfectly and can be found at any pharmacy for next to no money. Graham

    GWR loco's - N gauge

I didn't know Dapol had entered the British N scale market, that's excellent news. I think you'd be better off with a new Bachmann loco or maybe the dapol, some of the older Graham Farish loco's only have three pole motors and aren't that reliable. That said I had an old Farish large Prairie...
