    But it's a dry heat!

Chris, I second that dry heat thing, it's for real. Houston, about 300 miles away, has that 90+ humidity and I hate it. Here's a picture of the thermometer in my train room taken today, it shows 113. It was tolerable but I'm not so addicted (I think) that I spent time there. Following that...

    Name Game

Easy enough, I model and railfanned the Santa Fe and my name is Willie. I didn't know any better in 2002 when I registered...have used it on other forums as well.

    Newb needs help

I have trouble with N scale because of its size so I am HO. Around here there is a lot more HO stuff available at the LHS's. Price seems to be almost equal so it seems that you are getting more for your money when you buy the larger stuff. Detailing is much easier in HO, more parts available...

hi all, im new here, and i have a question about engines

Ozzy, if you forget about the sound for now you can get good running Athearn diesel units for $75 - $85; Kato or P2K (Proto 2000) for $125 -$140. Atlas and Bachmann Spectrum are also good quality but I haven't purchased any so I don't know the price range, I buy from discounters so your LHS may...

Hopefully Final Track Plan, 10 month anniversary (all comments welcomed)

Nice plan for your space. It was interesting to watch the redevelopment along the way. Is there any significance associated with the "Blue Moon Drive In"? Be sure to post some pictures of construction along the way, it's sure to help some others.

Help me decide which trackbed to use

Cork and nails on top of plywood for me as well. I like that solid feeling. Easier to make re-adjustments later on.

Unless it's really a rough ride, it should hold up.

    Dont you hate being ignored?

I guess that I'm very lucky. Even though I'm way out in the sticks I have access to two very fine hobby shops. The closest one to me is about thirty miles away. It is The Silver Spike in Denton TX. I drive past Denton every day on the way home from work so it is actually convenient. It's a...

    DC Consists

I run DC and I only have problems when intermixing certain different manufacturers products. Athearns generally run faster than others. P2K and Kato mix well for me. Not all combinations work...4 versus 6 axles seem to be a greater problem than product line in some cases. One easy way to test is...

The article now on the "buyusa" website states that the EU is now withdrawing this levy.

    Simplist way for Multiple Units

You may as well buy all powered units. My experience is that dummy Athearn units don't roll too freely. If you're running DC then it helps to MU like units, i.e. all SD40-2's or all Dash9-44CW's. With DCC I understand you can program different units...I don't know how to do this since I run DC...

    Athearn blue box

I have the luxury of being able to shop at two LHS's. One of these is a large shop in an affluent surburb north of Dallas TX and the other is a small one-man shop about 30 miles closer to home. In the large shop they don't have more than 50 or so Athearn blue box kits out of a total inventory of...

    The Weathered Car Gallery

These hoppers were done with drybrushing the spills and using powdered chalk for the rust. The graffiti is decals and hand-painting.

    Giant Warehouse Building

Interesting! 8' x 6'...cool and nuts both. Reaching the center could be an issue. I'd love to see progress pictures as you go. Is this going to be part of a layout? How big is the layout? More info please. I am interested in real industry-sized buildings.

where to buy rustic buildings ?

American Model Builders has a number of laser-cut wooden kits that would fit that era. You may need to rough them up a bit for a wilderness scene.

    Will time fix this?

You need to vacuum the track, probably twice. You will also have to clean the wheels of every piece of rolling stock that has been over your track. If not, the graphite that was picked up will continue to spread, although it may eventually dissipate slowly.
