That looks like a timber trestle holding up that track. Don't see many like that these days.

You are right Robin

this is really a timber trestle on the famous Kanchanaburi- Burma line. (The Railway of Death - almost 100000 people died during the 16 month of construction time in 1942-43). Just a part of the line is existing today. This is the WAMPO trestle about 1000 m long along the river side.

I thought I'd seen that stretch of track in a photo somewhere - the death railway.

Isnt the "Bridge over the River Kuai" also on this line. Sorry about the spelling.

Yes the line actually starts with the bridge over the Kwai river.
