That looks really good! The texture makes it look more futuristic and modern compared to the various TV and movie incarnations. If you add a few greeblies here and there it could have originated from "District 9" rather than "War of the Worlds".

I was actually inspired by the walker from D9 to be honest! There are a few greeblies on the unarmoured sides, which can't really be seen, though ideally I would have wanted more. They're just so tedious to make, y'know?

Y'know, I think the artillery battery included with the model would be ideal for wargaming or school projects...

But, I still think it looks best when put together with the entire diorama:
