Lancia Stratos

If you paint the "tire" part of the wheels with "Liquid Electrical Tape", they will look like rubber. You can add treads using string and thins strips of thin paper, you can practice on flat sheets of paper till you get the treads you are happy with .

Did you know only 492 of these cars were manufactured. They are worth a fortune. .
:)
I don't think I'll go that far with detailing the tyres, but some good tips there.
I think the latest price point I could find was around £600,000-$800,000 that is out of my meagre price range.

So you are lost with this instruction I hope you will add a sat nav in your model to get back on track.

Anyway what you are doing is looking great!
Perhaps a paper satnav..? Kind words as a;ways

Not sure what price you are referring to, but the Liquid tape is around $6.50, and you could do 100's of tires with that, and also use it for it's stated use. Maybe you are referring to a real Lancia Stratos? Yup, they are out of my price range, as all new cars are! ;)

More Stratos gubbins...

Little discs were sourced from the parts, of which there are not enough on the sheet.
Some are slightly different sizes etc, but I have grabbed what I need and doing it my way.

The little stubs of dowel were doused with superglue to hold them into position, also a bead of said glue was added to the right angle to help stop any sag. The discs with holes were laminated to 3 layers thick with a fourth non-holed to form a cap.

Blobs of glue were put onto the top of the dowels and capped.

stratos extra (3).jpg

The steering rod/arm was also a recipient of superglue to stiffen it.

stratos extra (1).jpg

Rod/arm added and the car now has poseable front wheels.

stratos extra (2).jpg

Something simple for a change, brake discs...

lancia S (11).jpg

Discs added.

lancia S (10).jpg

With the front half of the chassis complete, its time to move to the back. Nameplate is the middle joining section for the front and back to link to.

lancia S (9).jpg

Back half and front are now united... The rear paper axle will be replaced with wooden dowel.

lancia S (12).jpg

Bottom view.

lancia S (8).jpg

Rear wheel hubs added along with brake discs.

Wheels and side walls

The wheels components have back-to-back components - one rim is a different colour as I lost one somewhere and had to make a duplicate.

My progress of the steps I took, not the best, and I'll keep the ugly bits to myself...

What no spare!

THANKS FOR TUNING IN... more later this week

The wheels came out great. you just have to color the white seams to have the excellent geometry of the wheels not be distracted. :)

This project is progressing nicely. I can see that there is quite a bit of greebling potential in it.
My one and only suggestion, is to paint the edges of the parts prior to assembly. You wil have a better finished product, in the end.

It would be really easy to make that front suspension actually work, using some springs from a couple of Pens. It would involve making the "A" arms pivot. :)

They are better than I expected, but not particularly brilliant at a certain point.
As to the seams, I like to paint my models when I have enough sub-assemblies to do a job lot.... all will be good
;)
Whaaat? Are the front wheels in sync when they are turned to one side??? Is this part of the kit or an upgrade by you?
Part of the kit, I'm good, but not that good

You should know my posts by now, everything will be done in the end... ;)

…taking it a bit too far methinks, but yes definitely one for the super detailers

Chassis is under control, so I think its time for bodywork...

A start point for me was the three quarter side panels... The tiny parts are the door handles.

20250721_212035.jpg

Wheel arches comprise of an upper and lower.
20250722_114002.jpg

Gluing a tab at a time, I worked my way from front to back.
20250722_115121.jpg

Once the upper was in place the lower was added using the front lip of the upper as a guide.
20250722_123514.jpg

Rear wheel arches complete.
20250722_131804.jpg

More rear action...

Upper and lower rear-end

As above, from inside

Added lower part to the side panels, so far this has gone trouble free - Number plate also added.

A part I'm not really looking forward to, but we'll give it a spin!
Front windscreen and rear louvres

20250722_191047.jpg

Small inserts behind the doors...presumably cooling intakes?
20250724_175225.jpg

Roof panel inserted and windows removed, ready for some see-through plastic...should be fun...
I started the panel at the point where the rear slopes away and moved up both sides at the same time, this allowed the roof to look correct..
Normally I'd start in the middle-front, but the rear seemed to matter more.

THANKS AS ALWAYS FOR WATCHING... more over the weekend

You are making great progress I like your building threads. Its like Im sitting next to you...
Awwww, that's very kind of you to say so...
You are spot on with the printed textrue alinement. Everything looks AMAZING!
Not an easy task, and that's mainly down to the designer of the patterns, but part alignment and symmetry on this car has to be spot-on...
Figuring out where everything goes is the really tricky part!
I have only managed to find two pictures of finished models, and both are 3 quarter shots, not showing any of the details I need :hammerhead:

A mixed bag of bits on this post

I needed picture of the rear to see how the slats are attached and how the rear section looks.

lancia-stratos-hf-stradale-490775500-5.jpg

The pic provided enough info to help progress. Fold lines only appear on parts 9 and 10, but all need to be folded.
The slats were put away to one side for now as I just needed the frame.

20250724_175535.jpg

Rear frame added to the outer window, also added a clear part to the rear inside wall to check thickness and clearance.

20250725_115652.jpg

After a bit of farting about I was left with an awful gap...

20250725_162021.jpg

Awful gap from outside...

20250725_162004.jpg

A bit of major surgery later the rear frame now fits like a glove. The slats will be added later.

20250725_211813.jpg

A move to the front parts next.

20250725_120305.jpg

Front valance and I presume the radiator.

20250726_123955.jpg

Same part from the rear.

20250726_124029.jpg

Front wheel arches fitted without a hitch.

20250725_211830.jpg

Front married to the mid and rear section.

20250726_115230.jpg

Now to tackle the oversized dashboard...
The old one was cut off and a replacement blank made.

20250726_142328.jpg

All the blank black parts were cut out and all the parts added onto the blank.
Paint will hide all the cuts.

20250726_143848.jpg

With the dash now sorted it was time to add and glue all the interior parts into position.
I didn't show the construction of the fire extinguishers as they are some of my worst work, but they are in and hard to see from the outside 'hopefully'

20250726_151510.jpg

The parts that were supposed to be attached to the dashboard now needed to be added to blank off the voids.

20250726_152545.jpg

Interior now complete and steering wheel added to a off-set angle as mentioned at the start of the build.

20250726_162238.jpg

With all those bits done I have added the interior into the chassis, also the back wall has been attached.

20250726_160527.jpg
