Faro Basso from UHU

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share my build of UHU’s scooter with you.
Since I saw it I wanted to build it. I liked all the round parts. It was my first model from UHU and I enjoyed the build.

So here it is in no particular order.


The front axle




I wanted the axle to be movable so I left the cone with its base unglued and added some extra rings of card to keep it in place.




More parts




This is my “3D” Version of UHU’s graphic for the breaking system.
I used his graphic with two or three more layers of card glued to the backside and replaced the line with a wire.

Put together with some additional wires inside



the front light

yes i agree, i realized that too after i started but i loved the challenge. It was a nice learning process.
A few parts i made twice until i got them right


Let's continue with the motor.



I installed some additional peaces of card to make this part stronger








connecting everything together





replacing this with this and installing it on the motor



and some more detailed pictures


The basic motor block is done. I used ordinary wires for the lines. I tried to match the colors and the thickness but could not find exactly the same so i used the ones which were close enough to UHU's colors. They are not the same (especialy the green one) but that's O.K. for me.

here i replaced the paper handle with a real metal one, i think it looks much nicer this way

The paper i used for these parts had a very convenient leather-like texture, exactly what i needed for the seat. Only difficulty was to get the patterns on it.
Printing black on black sounds crazy but it actually worked. The Backside of this paper was a bit mat so when i was holding the paper in a spezific angle i could see the parts and cut them out.

Next will come the frame.

As promised the frame

I wished I had 20 separately controllable fingers to hold all this small paper stripes in the right position for gluing

Here I could not avoid the gap but since it’s inside and not visible …….

Everyone has problems with this part. You just banged it out, and very well at that!!

Unfortunately, I didn’t take any photos of all the steps

I enhanced UHU’s paper stand with copper wire.
A quick and simple Jig helped me with positioning and soldering


The Copper stand is ready and I wrapped normal copy paper a few times around the wire to reach the needed thickness for UHU’s original stand parts to fit


Two small pieces of plastic serve as hinges so I can open and close the stand




The bottom base plate I used twice to compensate the thickness of the plastic sheets and to hide them.
So, the base plate is made out of three parts sandwiched together


Done, and just to see how it looks I installed temporarily the steering system

Installing enhanced part for holding the steering system, covers and the horn


The front is ready


Preparing the back light

Installing the electric contact, solder it to the led and closing it with a scratch build cover


Mounting points for the motor and modified suspension unit

continuing with testing the motor movement


and finally install it with the suspension


Time to give this scooter a place to sit on
Back seat, fuel tank cap and drivers seat


I replaced UHU’s spring under the seat with real ones which I took from AA-Batterieholders, they had just the correct size
