If the motor is isolated from the frame, then it should be OK. Some locos (dunno bout Athearn) have the metal chassis as part of the connectivity from the track through to the motor. There is no way of breaking that connection to put a decoder in the way. Whether a decoder will fit, is another matter. :eek:
 
Hi Woodie.

Good to hear from you. I will pull the machine apart one of these days and take a look to see how it is put together. If I can't convert it I'll figure out a way to trade with someone who runs DC.

I'm off to Tucson, AZ in a couple of days to enjoy some of their warmth and sunshine. It was bitterly cold here for the past month and I've got the natural gas bill to prove it!!
