Building the RK&M III: The Mountain

I like Galen's comments. I just hope that when I get to that stage, I receive similar responses, especially from Galen (since he drew up my trackplan)

    UP "Roll-By" **WARNING 47 PICS**

I just noticed there is a hooker in the train! And if the blooper didn't get edited out, in the very next shot would have been a very provocatively dressed woman!sign1

    progress on my layout

I've always just used white glue for the foam scenery. I don't mind the wait for it to dry, I usually don't have a whole lot of time to work on it at a time (if that makes any sense). I too am taking a similar route to build it up then carve down, but not in this area, since there is not much...

    Thanks for the help!

    progress on my layout

Here are a few more picture updates: First shot is an overall shot showing where everything stands now. You can tell I still need to buy some more track Second shot shows the start of scenery work on the outside of the mainline right where the incline starts. I plan to have the scenery...

Suggested method for turnout signal lights

Just took a look at the back of my Atlas snap switch. The only diagram on the back is just showing how to wire the machine (on the turnout) to the switch (user operated). Shows nothing about how to wire up lights for indicators

Photo Fun for the week of 2/23

Deano, I do remember reading that when you were detailing the CNW F7 pictured here. I just thought that since you are a fan of IRM you may have painted one up to match the F7 they have

    wooden hopper car

Greg, is this the same article on how to build the hopper pictured in post 1 in this thread? If so, I'll take a copy at viperownerathrt@aol.com

Ok, well, I checked on it again this morning and the cork did absorb some of the glue, more so than the liquid nails, but all is well. Thanks for the tip Amrap!

Photo Fun for the week of 2/23

Steve, your pictures just keep getting better! I hope I can get my layout to look as nice as yours, although I won't be doing rockwork. Did you weather the rails at all, in that last picture it doesn't look like it to me

I'd be interested to see this too! The hopper looks great

Photo Fun for the week of 2/23

Everyone is posting some great shots so far! Deano, I'm a little surprised you didn't go with number 411 instead, since the Illinois Railway Museum owns that particular loco with a few of those passenger cars

I'm just hoping the cork doesn't absorb the glue

    progress on my layout

I just went and laid some more cork using the white glue. Since this is only in the yard area, I'm not going to worry about it as much as I would with the mainline stuff. Amrap, I just read your post. I'm not worried about the damage to the cork or foam when peeling it back up, since at this...

    Got a quick shot

Woah, in that first CSX picture, the phone number on the sign on the fence starts with 356. That is the same as the phone numbers start with here in Crystal Lake, IL!

Amrap, the liquid nails I was using is like a caulk, and was the foamboard/projects type. You mean to tell me that white glue would work just as good as this stuff, when it comes to gluing the cork roadbed to the foam base? I know foam to foam the stuff works, but not too sure about the coark to...
