    B&O steam...

cnnutbar has inspired me to get some steam fired up. The saddletank 0-4-0 has been assigned a work train detail this afternoon, while a once proud Consolidation has been assigned the less than glamorous drag assignment.

Ray, that motive power sure is sharp. Steeple cabs, critters, puddle jumpers, great variety and modeling. Look forward to seeing more. Stuart.

Drew's Feb. Layout Party - HO Sawmill

Great job, Drew! You are really doing a great job capturing the back woods ambience of your logging operation. I can almost smell the sawdust from here. Can't wait to see more. Stuart.

Tompm Layout Party #6: Beginning of the RK&M

Tom, those are some fine buildings you have there. The weathering looks great, not to mention all the spurs you have added to enhance operation. I am looking forward to see how the rest comes along as you always seem to feature my favorite roads in all of their gritty glory. Very nice. Stuart.

Hold on we are going for a ride

Holy Moly! I am wondering what the timetable special instructions say about setting those retaining valves! Hell, I'd even balance the train at the summit and do a break test before taking on that hill. Great photo, Lester. Stuart

    love those passing trains

That Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo gondola really caught my eye, subtle weathering with a "used but not abused" look to it. Great job. Stuart.

    ...half a car..steady....that'll do.

Experimenting with shadow effects. I read a great article an issue or two ago in Railroad Model Craftsman on photography. Thought I would give it a whirl.

    Stuck at a crossing...

Wayne, I really like the angle that you are using in those pictures. It really shows off the underbody details on your nice rolling stock, not to mention that is pretty much how it looks sitting in a car at a road crossing-looking under the cars as opposed to over them. Great job. Stuart.

Test Train on the RK&M at the Water Tower

Fine job, Tom. Once again, mile post 46 proves itself to be a great railfanning spot. I always seem to see elements from my favorite roads there. I particulary appreciate the very convincing rust effects Tom seems to have nailed down. Stuart.

    waterfront industry

The weeds are bristles from a cheap artists paint brush. The bristles are natural colored, kind of stiff to begin with, I use watercolors to stain the bristles to the desired color. The bristles are kind of thick for an artist paint brush {it was a cheapie], and I had used it quite a bit before...

Here is a recent update on my B&O switching layout. Folks familiar with this area will notice the city pier on the backdrop. It is the modern day home of the Moran tugboat fleet in Fells point, MD. It is a computer print out from a photo I have taken from across the harbor at the Dominos sugar...

    fiddle yards

I think its the perfect area to practice laying ballast. While simple sounding enough, it can be a real challenge to those who have not tried it before, and potentially could spoil your attempt on other parts of the layout. Ballast should not be an issue with "getting in the way", and you could...
