When the CNR comes to town, it brings with it the train nuts...

Wayne, that's such incredibly fantastic modeling, that I hesitate to make any criticism whatsoever. However, your layout urgently needs a scenic backdrop painted onto the walls. The layout is so beautiful and detailed that it deserves everything. Your photos are always a great inspiration for...

Great shot - now try photoshopping some smoke coming out of the stack. On second thought, nevermind. It always looks fake.

    Model Railroader Research

The "million dollar bridge" actually cost somewhere around 1.5 million. I can't help you with the MR reliquary, but one of my hobbies is collecting old railroad pics. Here is what I believe to be the oldest photo of the bridge: Here is a model of the bridge --- is this pic from the...

    Considering a scratchbuild...

I haven't found anything I like by way of a small depot for my layout - New England architecture circa late nineteenth century. I'm considering scratchbuilding this one - in North Easton Mass, just a half-hours drive from me. It was built in 1882. I would appreciate any help you all could...

My grandiose plans for the new year...

I haven't been modeling now for the last 5 months for various reasons, mostly to do with a new job and a much heavier work schedule. I'm looking forward to more free time in January. I'm going to finish laying the track and pour me a river. I better stop there - I always expect to get more done...

    What is this train hauling?

I think it's a warp nacelle. By the way, that's some excellent weathering on those cars, and very realistic looking people.

"TooManyHobbies" - I can relate to that. I collect rare coins, model railroads, and have three salt-water aquariums. Why did I have to pick all of the expensive ones?

    Charles Ro Supply Company

I've been there a number of times, and it IS a big store. They've got lots of stuff in big scales, probably more in HO than anything, a little bit of N and no Z whatsoever. The selection is great as long as you're not looking for anything erudite. As far as being the "biggest store", I...

    The Layout

Looks like you're having fun. I wish I had your space to work in. Did you go very broke buying all that stuff?

pictures! i don't even reconize my layout anymore! and is that a lionel i spy??

I'm always impressed at how good a well-built "toy train" set looks. The aesthetic is so different from what us N-scalers are accustom to. It reminds of the train sets that I used to see as a kid at the Bon Marche store in Seattle at Christmas. Very nostalgic.

    Now and then...

Great shots, and great modelling! I especially like the care you've taken to weather the buildings and rolling stock. Excellent work.

    Help with First Layout

Can't help you with that software, but the inside turn radii seem a bit small at first glance. I think you would be more satisfied with stretching the plan out to fit the entire space. This would give you more room for buildings and scenery. That's something you could always be fiddling around...
