Weekly Photo Fun: Week of 10/19

When I looked through my photos for something a little different, I found this pic taken at the B & O museum in Baltimore. Since I am a steam nut, does that mean I should refer to this as a 4-0-0-2? Well at least it is black, even if it doesn't run on steam!

To Use DCC" MRC" Reverse Loop Module Or Not

The difference in turnouts may have been the deciding factor between my lack of problems and the problems encountered by Gary. I used all Peco turnouts, properly gapped, and lots of power feeds. Diesel or steam (N gauge) work equally well with the MRC reverse module.

To Use DCC" MRC" Reverse Loop Module Or Not

I have used the MRC units with great success. I do have an MRC Prodigy Advanced system. However, I have talked to other hobbyists who have successfully used MRC reversing modules with other systems.

    To N-Gauger Happy Birthday

Happy birthday, Mikey! I quit having birthdays some years ago due to the potential fire hazard of so many candles! Glad to see you can still have birthdays safely!

    Weekend Photo Fun 10-12 10-14

After seeing the other aircraft pictures, I couldn't resist adding one of my favorites from an air show in Bay City MI in 2006. I model the steam era, and I also like the old warbirds - they had a lot more character!

    Weekend Photo Fun 10-12 10-14

Just north of Flint, Michigan is an 1880s village with operational blacksmith's shop, sawmill, etc. Starting within that village are the tracks that were used by what the locals called the "Huckleberry Railroad". It got that name because people could step off the train to pick huckleberries...

    Amusing Observation

A small town near me had it's third annual Depot Days celebration, with steamer #1225 (the inspiration for the Polar Express) as the featured attraction. Naturally, I had to be there to get a few pics. I overheard a couple talking as the train approached - she was telling him that it is no...

Recent photos from York Railway Modellers Club

Thanks for letting us see an outstanding layout! The photography is excellent. It is obvious that you have a group of skilled hobbyists who pay close attention to detail. Those pictures almost make me want to move from the boondocks so I could find a club!

    Best way to cut styrofoam?

I know that knives and hot wires are the most popular ways to cut the pink/blue foam, but I find myself straying off the cut line using those methods. I use a 1/4" blade in my bandsaw and have no problems staying on the cut line. Unless you feed the foam VERY slowly past the blade there is no...

Russ, thanks for the info and the pictures of the Valley Flyer. That was one I was not familiar with, so I really appreciate the education!

This Berkshire is the loco that did the sound effects for the Polar Express movie. I took this pic when it arrived in Standish MI for their Depot Days celebration in October 2005.

    Father son project

You have done a great job on that layout! Many years ago, when my son was small, we built an HO layout on a 4x8 sheet of plywood. He also liked cars, so we had a lot of roads, a couple of tunnels and a few buildings. Last year, he built a similar layout with his 4 year old son. The next time...

    Maid of all work...

Your posts are always an inspiration to the rest of us. You do things the way they should be done, and in the process, educate the rest of us. I, for one, would be ecstatic if I could even come close to your realistic effects. Thanks for all the posts.
