    Modular track plan... planning...

The monitor on my desk and my aquarium are the tallest items in my room, reaching 4.5 feet. However, that is about a foot above than the bottom of the windows. I wouldn't want a layout that I would have to stand up to see, work on and operate though. It would be nice to sit back in my chair or...

    Modular track plan... planning...

Ok, here is a layout of my room in its current state (will be rearranged for layout). I put small stuff like the computer and trashcan in because they need to be next to my desk so it makes the space required of my 'office' area a little larger. One concern of mine is having a comfortable space...

    Modular track plan... planning...

I wanted a turn table for a larger engine house but it takes up too much space (with my current plans).

    Modular track plan... planning...

I'll draw up a scale room plan tomorrow. The reason for the depth of the layout is for continuous running though, and the staging just happens to be a part of that in my plan. I was trying to think of a way to have a less deep, longer layout with larger ends for turnarounds but it didn't work...

    Modular track plan... planning...

I would actually really like to have a long layout that follows the walls that doesn't loop on the layout itself, but loops through a hidden track. The only problem is I have too many large items in my room that need to be against a wall so I don't have room for a long layout that is still deep...

    Modular track plan... planning...

I really considered using the N-Trak standard but I have a visual goal for my layout that wouldn't fit with the standard. I'll probably build a separate module that follows the N-trak standards that I can take to shows but right now my main goal is home enjoyment. My main reasons for going...

    Modular track plan... planning...

Hey all. I am planning my layout which has to be in my room (don't have anywhere else to put it). Due to space constraints and personal preferences I am going to attempt a modular N scale layout. I've put a lot of thought into it and don't plan to follow any standard. My plan is to have four 5x2...

Do you have a home layout, belong to a club or both?

Just started and have nothing yet and belong to no club. Due to lack of space I'm planning on building a modular layout (3 x 2 modules) that when expanded is 9 x 4 feet and fits down to 9 x 2 feet when I'm not playing with it. That way I can work on a module without taking up half of my room and...

    New member, hey!

I just got my 2-6-6-2 today... and wow... there are so many little details and pieces on this thing... I didn't expect this insane level of detail with the amount I paid for it... I'm almost afraid to run it! I'm going to very carefully put it back in its box, place it on a shelf, and never...

    Rules for switching / operations?

After some more searching I found what looks to be a good resource. I'm going to read through it and see if it answers my questions. Here's the link in case anyone else is interested: http://www.vetmed.auburn.edu/~smithbf/BFSpages/LDSIGprimer/Operations.html Edit: Yup... I found a very good...

    Rules for switching / operations?

I've been searching through this forum trying to get some information but being a newbie, I'm swamped with a lot of stuff I don't quite understand. I'm just not quite sure what the rules of the rail are and I'm having a hard time finding information about it. Rather than attempt to post what I...

    Model Tech Sand Facility Done!

Good job! Good idea for the sand. I'm about to build several small wood building and wonder how well I'll do. Guess I should go get some tweezers! Do you have any tips for building such small structures?

    New member, hey!

My initial plan was to just have a 1x3 ft diorama because I have a lot of other priorities and didn't want to start a huge project, but then I decided I didn't want to stop there and wanted to do sections which could be put together over time. Now since Bob mentioned module standards, it would...

    Ntrak limitations

Thanks for the advice guys. That's basically what I figured but since I am pretty new to this I thought I would give it a shot. I'll get in touch with the local club and see what they allow. I think I will just use my own standard and, club rules permitting, have 'conversion' modules so mine...

    Ntrak limitations

I am just now really getting in to model trains and my plan was to do modules (2x4ft) one at a time instead of a single large layout. I didn't plan to follow any standards but I'm thinking maybe I should that way I can bring my module(s) to clubs and shows. I'm new to the whole module thing, but...

    New member, hey!

Thanks for the welcome :) Yeah, I just thought about that today. From my reading, it seems like there are several different standards so I wasn't sure what to do. Right now my first module is just carved foam so it would be easy enough to standardize it without much trouble.
