    Come along on our adventure

We hope someone will find this info useful. (We just wanted to show that we can offer suggestions as well as requesting them :) ). We made some trees and yet were having a hard time getting them to stay put with the small nubs on the bottom of the trunks. So, we got some .032 bronze wire...

Here's another road based question in case anyone has an opinion. Once we put the asphalt coloring on the road (going to use Woodland Scenics Asphalt Top Coat), we want to stripe the road but am not sure how to organize the lines. We're thinking about putting a single, continuous white stripe...

Spitfire, LOL. I think as master of our own universe we are going to deem that parallel parking is legal ...... Although if there is a model of a policeman writing a ticket ..... hmmm!

Thanks, Lighthorseman for the kind words. We'll take a look at the Gazette -- thanks for the suggestion. Appreciate the feedback on the towns you go through -- we've pretty much settled in on have the parking be parallel in front of the buildings. Fortunately (more by luck than...

Here are a couple of pics of what they are hauling. I particularly like the pic on the bridge over the ditch.

Here's a pic of SP nose to nose with one of the UPs. I also have a close up of the SP.

Well, we went out to see what we could see and found a very large group of UPs hooked up to a very long, obviously very heavy, load of hoppers full of gravel. Since we are modeling a gravel area, and are using UPs, we couldn't have been happier with our find. Here are some pics.

Interurban, we were out of the gauge for most of yesterday as well. No kidding about all the street work to do -- guess I'm going to have to get a second job.

TW20, LOL about the porter. :D :D I just put him there for a sense of scale. Doesn't look too bad as a bellhop, though, does he? Perhaps he is free-lancing. Guess he'll be making his way back over to the train station soon enough.

Last one -- This is from the back. According to the posts we were pointed to, if we want a road with two 12' lanes (one each way), it should be about 3 1/4 inches in width. Ours is 5 1/2 inches is width, so now that I look at it, we should be fine bringing the sidewalk right up to the road...

OK, here are some pics testing the layout for parallel parking. This first pic is a side view of the gullwing parallel parked in front of the store with the cobra in the traffic lane.

Spitfire, sorry for stirring up a cloud of dust  . Hope I didn't offend anyone with my rant. You're right -- we are really enthusiastic right now and there are so many people on the-gauge with such great knowledge. When I look at my less than 100 posts and then see people with posts...

TW20, I like your idea about using black ballast for the gravel parking area behind the buildings.

Interurban, HOLY COW     I followed your links -- what an amazing layout. See I was right -- there are some incredible modelers on this website. :D I very much enjoyed the pictures and it really helps me put your comments into context. I'm embarassed to say that we...

EMT49, Thanks for the suggestions. That's a great point about having some parking in the back for the employees. I'll definitely do that. I'm going to use our two cars to mock something up and will post here.

It's FRIDAY 2-25-05, weekend modeling plans!

We're trying to get our downtown scene laid out and another road poured. Then we can start laying gravel down at the gravel company. We've also got some errands to run that will take us alongside a rail, so we'll take the ole digital and see if we can catch anything.

TW20, Capt Turk and J&A, thanks for your supportive comments. It's a brand new day, it's the weekend, and we have some time for working on the railroad :) . All is well again!

Interurban, thanks for your suggestions as well. I hadn't thought about the balsa wood idea. Any additional comments based on my reply to Ray? I think I might put a couple of cars on the layout with the buildings right up to the road -- one car in the lane of traffic, and one car parallel...

    Come along on our adventure

Ray, thanks for the advice. If I understand what you are saying -- take off the existing plastic layer that forms the bottom of the building and that extends outward to form a plastic sidewalk. Then lay a cork bed to match, then apply sidewalk material on top of the cork, then place the...
