    Kato 2-8-2

Just a heads up... Unless you own more than one loco, you'll only be able to use 2 sets of these drivers at most. (Possibly only 1) From what I understand, you really only need 1 set. On a Kato 2-8-2, there are 4 different sets of drivers. -See attached image- The #1 has round crank pin holes...

    Kato 2-8-2

I haven't done the mod myself, and the one I have was tender mounted. It seems, however, that with very careful measurements and mock-up, the boiler install wouldn't be too hard. You can keep about 75% of the original boiler weight I'm guessing.

    Help Is Needed.........

I believe his super chief set would probably have the longest cars; unless he is running articulated auto-carriers 40 years before their time.... Sniktag, if you post your floor plan, and "givens and druthers" the guys here will do what they can to come up with something workable for you. I...

    Kato 2-8-2

Told ya Mike... you should have traded me. http://crankylove.net/DN_Mike.jpeg All you would have had to do is splice into the old harness... And swap your drivers into it, of course.

    EMD GM sw 10?

It's actually the Pensacola area, but I like to mix up my 'home town' once in a while. I'm originally from Utah, so you won't hear much from me besides a mild military accent.:-D

    Dumbing down a Bachmnn GP50

One thing that I have personally done... Make sure when you put the frame halves back together when installing the truck, that you put the plastic spacers between the frame halves. Also don't over tighten the screws. In a lot of bachmanns it's possible to over tighten the screws (sometimes...

    EMD GM sw 10?

Found some good info, Roger. Here, it shows all Union Pacific SW10's leased to CP, were rebuilt from SW9's except UP-1231 which was an SW7. So that should make things a bit easier if you choose to kitbash. Which, of course, I highly recommend. My signature says it all. Edit: Might help if I...

    Tools for kitbashing

Just a heads up on narrow-guaging... All my experience applies to N scale, but I'm guessing a lot of the same problems cross the scale boundries. I recently narrowguaged a Bachmann 4-4-0, and am in the process of doing the same to a bachmann 2-6-2, DDM45 trucks (DD40X), a Kato 11-105 B train...

What have you learned from model railroading?

I've learned that every solution adds 2 more problems. Sometimes it requires putting the subject down and walking away, but in the end, it's usually worth the trouble.

Help, am I being scammed from ebay?

I recently received 3 similar emails. Mine, however, were legit. I had ordered 2 Undec water tenders, and a used b-mann pacific tender. My emails also showed this name, but this was not the seller I had purchased from. All three of my emails (from 2 different vendors), included an...

    Can you buy this?

Very nice work guys. I'd just like to add that BigJim is absolutely correct in ORDERING YOU! to use a point forming tool. I hand laid several unique sections of track 4-5 years ago, and until I made my own point form tool, I was ready to shoot the neighbors. As soon as I managed to make my own...

    Cool Layout

When I saw that, the first thing I thought of was the good ol' redneck races I used to attend in western Washington. One of the bump-to-pass style races included 20-30 cars on a very small dirt track. They had to continuously make laps in a figure 8 pattern, but that wasn't the bad part...

Here We Go Loop De Loop!

This design was based on a 30" x 60" layout. I wanted to see if I could squeeze it down to 30" x 48". The 'pointed' section of the inner-most loop on the left side has a 1 3/4" section that dips down to 7 7/8" radius. All other curves are 9 3/4" minimum, just like the original layout. I...

    A ? for N scalers

In the past I might say I'd jump to HO if I had the space. At the moment (life changes fast), I would stick with N even if I had a warehouse to work with. Of course, I'd run a G scale layout along side it... But N scale just gives you those beautiful landscapes and mainline runs. In HO, you...

Here We Go Loop De Loop!

I hate to admit it, but I had to resist posting my 36"x48" folded dog bone (with 3 industries) because the scenic ridge is actually a better option for your situation. But don't forget, the track plan is still negotiable even if you go with WS's kit.

    Passenger service suggestions?

Travellar. I just want to remind you. In general, in this hobby, you get what you pay for. If you pick up a 'cheap ten wheeler' it will probably act like a cheap ten wheeler and give you headaches til the day you get rid of it. ( or throw it out the window ) Investing in a higher quality...

    Bachman Steam locos

I was never a fan in the past, but I have recently opened my eyes to Model Power steam. After seeing 4 different models of their steam run on a layout (brand new, out of the box at a hobby shop), I started buying them when they fit what I needed. I now own 4 Model Power steam locos: 1...

What has everyone done this weekend?

Nothing much. Proof-of-Concept mod of an Atlas LMT 9000 truck. Had this been a serious model, all fiber strands, Led surfaces, wires, insulation, leads, and the resistor would have been painted black to hide them and prevent light leaks such as you see in the last pic. My next try will be an...
