    Washing Machine Hoses

I agree with Jim, what a bummer. Years ago I installed simple garden hose shut-off valves to the washer hose bibs before I put the hoses on. They have a small lever that lets you shut off the water with just a quarter turn. It's really easy to do and prevents what happened to you. Cost in...

CVR - The Birth of A Town

Now you just hold your horses there Will. Who you callin' a big city dude? Actually, I didn't mean for you to get a bee in your bonnet. It's just that, compared to my little cow town of Defiance, (population unknown 'cause we can't count that high) Orangeville seems like a burgeoning...

    Incline...or Decline?

77, Here's a pic that shows a little about what you're talking about. I wanted a tall trestle so used a 2" layer of foam over my entire layout to cheat the base elevation up 2". I then used 4% grades to get up as high as I could, but then cut out the foam in the area that will be a lake to...

Its Monday 2-13-06, Weekend modeling accomplishments!

I had a little time to stack some foam and layout out a couple of almost completed mine structures. Here's a few pics. Doc

    bridge help needed

Wick, Here's a couple of pics of how I handled a similar situation. I only had one track, but needed to locate a turnout within the bridge span. Like you, I traced the tie outline and then used Atlas plate girders on the outside edge of a piece of cardboard used to form the bridge deck. I cut...

    cutting foam inclines

I agree with kchronister. I tried and actually made a couple that didn't turn out too bad, especially considering I was using beaded styrofoam. I think the problem you are going to have is the transition sat the start of the incline. Even at a 4% grade (like I used), the last several inches...

    Layout progress

Dingo, I used foam over plywood for a couple of reasons. My entire layout is on wheels so I can pull it out from the wall to get to the back side. The plywood acts as a diaphram to distribute the pulling load to the various legs. I also hadn't finalized my track plan when I did the...

    Layout progress

UM, I used a piece of regular #14 (maybe it was #12) regular copper wire used for residential construction. I unscrewed the fittings and took out the old soldering tip and replaced it with the piece of wire, having first inserted it through the fittings and bending over little tabs on the ends...

    Layout progress

Like a hot knife through, well, foam, err, butter. Actually I think it works great. I can bend the wire to almost any shape, as long as it doesn't touch itself anywhere. I suppose that the larger diameter wire (as opposed to a store bought one) creates a little more fumes. Doc

    Layout progress

Looking real good Jim! :thumb: My hats off to you for making the inclines yourself. I tried and failed, but was using white beaded foam (the only kind I could find in my neck of the woods). I'm modeling the Old West, circa 1880 , am also using 4% grades and short trains due to a high...

    Plaster Question

After a long hiatus, work on the BAD Western has resumed. Track work and wiring is done. I used WS inclines and risers for elevation changes and I'm starting to build up the remaining areas in preparation for plaster cloth. I've got a whole bunch of white beaded styrofoam (the only kind...

    Two Questions

I don't know about the type of plastic, but storage in a hot attic (or any other hot place) can warp train cars. I speak from experience. Doc
