    progress on my layout

Here's a couple more recent pics I took this morning. One shows the connection I added between the two separate tracks.. The last is a trestle kitbash I'm putting in. Sorry for the poor photo quality. Doc

    progress on my layout

Thanks Steve, unfortunately the only recent work I've done it to clean the track. I don't have much time to work on the BAD Western during spring, summer and fall. Too many honeydo projects around the house. I'm looking forward to the onset of winter and a long rainy season. Doc

    progress on my layout

I'm using 18" and 22" radii. I'm running early steam so I can get away with them that small. Inclines vary from 1% to a max of 4%. Here's an early pic showing the ups and down. I laid it out on graph paper and may still have the sketch with elevations. PM me you address and if I can find...

    progress on my layout

Viperman, Isn't that the Atlas Super Pretzel? My overall layout is almost the same size as yours if you cut off the 4'x2' leg. I started with the SP and modified it to fit and to separate it in two separate, but connected mainlines. You can look on my RailImages page to see the track plan...

    A Hoisted Layout??? Pulleys/wires/in garage

Mrs. Doc has a particular convertible which has an optional removable hardtop. I bought a pully hoisting system made especially for it and believe me, it will lift a ton! The limitung factor is more likely to be the garage rafters. I beefed mine up just to be sure. I did have a 4'x8'...

    So it starts....

Looking forward to watching your progress. Good idea doing the carpet first, then the benchwork. I did mine the other way (didn't decide to carpet until benchwork done). What a pain. Doc

    western figures in HO

Thanks for the kind words. I have a nice space, but not a lot of time. Believe it or not, what you see is about 3 years worth, calendar-wise. Lookin' forward to seein' what you've done. Doc

Monday 10-9 and Where Did It Come From?

I started out planning on building the Atlas Super Pretzel and then made a few changes. Doc

    western figures in HO

Cookie, I bought several sets of the Airfix figures and while they seem to vary a little, all in all they're not a good match. Preiser makes a few. Other than that, Rustic Rails is the only other manufacturer that I know of. I've had some lick kitbashing modern day folks. Good luck. Doc

    Your Prayers Needed

Thanks so much for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. So far we've received good and bad news. Docs say a previous off-the-chart test result was erronously high as is was too soon after surgery. On the down side, a biopsy this morning revealed malignant cells in the lymph nodes in her...

    Your Prayers Needed

Three years ago my 30 year old daughter discovered she had a very agggressive form of breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy and treatment and things were good for a while. Unfortunately we recently found out it is back, has spread and is through out her bloodstream. Her prognosis...

    Saturday 9-16 Town Names???

Tombstone was taken so after coming up with the theme for the BAD Western, I needed towns beginning with B and D. Mrs. Doc's maiden name is Bovee so that was easy. After application of a little alcohol, Defiance poped out of my brain as appropriate for a wild west cowtown. Doc

Track planning templates and scale rulers?

Steve, Did you ever receive the templates I mailed? I've sent a couple of PMs without response so thought I'd try this way. Doc

    Your Local Hobby Shop

My LHS (really not so local, the next town over) sells everything at or above MSRP, offers no discounts, won't return anything, offers little or no help as they're too busy visiting on the phone or chatting with other customers. I use the internet for most things. Doc

Track planning templates and scale rulers?

Hey Steve I bought a set of Atlas HO scale full size track templates to help plan my layout. I made a zillion copies and laid the whole thing out full size. I'm done with them so if you wanna PM me your address, I'll snail mail them to you gratis. Doc

Foam vs Plywood - opinions please

Lots of good suggestions here. I used 1/2" ply with a minimum of 2" foam over all and WS inclines to form grades. I used Liquid Nails for Foam Projects to glue the foam and cork roadbed and lautex caulk for the track. If I built a shelf type layout I'd forgo the plywood, but my entire layout...

    Aluminium siding

I recently completeda Campbell's kit using their corrugated aluminum siding. Here's a pic. I tried CA and white glue, but ended up using Goo Glue. I also tried making my own siding using foil.. Found it was too thin. I found a chrome metallic tape used for duct work that worked fairly...

    Blue/Pink and white polystyrene?

I agree with Jetrock, although we hit 115 in Stockton last weekend. I spent a bunch of time trying to find the blue/pink stuff within a 100 mile radius, a store that would order it for me, or a place to order online and came up with zilch. The one place that would order it would only do 50...
