    corrugated steel building

Happy Thanksgiving Tom, Yeah, Roger's in Lodi is the only "LHS" around, now that the tiny little train shop in Pacific Bowl has gone out of business. Only Roger's isn't Roger's anymore. He expanded it into the space next door, mostly for radio controlled cars and then sold it about a year...

    progress on my layout

Based on the pic, he should be able to reach the back by coming in from the sides. And since the benchwork is free-standing on legs, he could always put the whole thing on adjustable rolling casters like I did with mine so I cann roll it away from the wall to get to the back side. Doc

    Laying Track

I agree with jflessne and now use latex caulk. I started using Liquid Nails and found the caulk much cheaper and more forgiving, but holds just as well. Doc

    making track grades

Cutting foam at a 1%-4% grade isn't that tough, especially if you are using the pink or blue stuff. It is a bit harder if all you can find is th ewhite beated stuff, although using a hot wire knife helps. The problem cutting your own is the very start of the incline where the thickess is less...

I think that they're great, only thing wrong is the price my LHS sells them for. Here's a pic of a Campbell's Idaho Mine Kit covered with them. Doc

    making track grades

Although you can easily cut foam for the flat level risers, do yourself a favor and use the WS inclines for your grades. You'll be glad you did. I sure was. Doc

    progress on my layout

I used mostly Atlas sectional track for the curves. All of them are 18" radius except the curve in the upper right and the outside rail on the lower left, these are both 22". The plan is very rough, although it is to scale (1'=12") if you print it full size. I did have a couple of 6" straght...

    Bridge question?

The kit offers a few advantages, but nothing that a little patience and hard work can't make up for. The bents come pre-molded in one piece which reduces time and provides consistency. The top stringer plates are also pre-molded which makes it easier. Other than that, adding the horizontal...

    Vintage Kit(s)

I've got a few of them I picked up on ebay since they semed like older structures and fit my era better than most of the other stuff on the market. Seem like pretty good kits and for the most part are a lot cheaper than Campbells. Doc.

    Bridge question?

It was really easy to do. I laid out a full size arc of the centerline of the track radius (18" in my case) as long as I wanted the trestle. I then drew 1.5" cords along the curve wich represents approximately 10' in HO scale. This will be the trestle bent spacing. I then drew radial lines...

    Bridge question?

Check out the middle pic in my reply to this post. http://www.the-gauge.com/showthread.php?t=21535&page=15 It shows how I'm doing pretty much what you want to do. I'm just cutting into foam whereas you will probably have to cut into your bench work but the principle is the same. I laid all...

    Tunnel / Mountain question?

I'm making my tunnel interiors out of white styrofoam. I bent a copper wire into a tunel shape and placed it inot my soldering gun to make a hot wire cutter. I follow a radius template for the curve radius I want. After I cut out the main section, I rough it up a little with a file and paint...

    Hold the foam???

Doug, I did exactly what you're talking about. I put 2" of white foam (I can't find the blue/pink syuff in my area) over 1/2" plywood. I then added WS inclines and home made risers to provide different levels. I've also cut away th ebottom 2" foam in some sections (down to the plywood) to...
