Canadian National F7A with zebra stripes

Technically CN used FP-9's on passenger trains. They had the zebra stripes. there isn't many diffences in a F-7 and an FP-9 the main one the FP-9 is slightly longer to accomadate the steam generator used by passenger cars. The F-7s were mainly a freight engine.

    Walthers 2-stall engine house

That is a really nice structure. I scratchbuilt a two stall engine house a few years ago but I'd have to say that yours looks better to me.

    Flooring question

My train room has a tight weave berber carpet with a 1/4" water resisant underlay. I just have to remeber to spread a tarp on the floor before I do any scenery. The floor is very comfortable to walk and stand on the even when I did spill a bit of plaster on it I just waited for it to set up and...

    Rolling stock kits.

The old Athearn kits were pretty good, got me started on modelrailroading. Accurail has come on the scene with their take on the 'easy' kits. But now I'm looking for a bit more of a challenge. I like the time and it takes to put a Proto2000 kit together. I also like building the wood craftsman...

    Canadian National pass car numbers

Thanks for the picture but the car is too new for the model that I'm building. I also have been to the CN SIG site but didn't find anything there either. Wayne, I do have the decals (from CDS) for the old era passenger cars with the wafer logo.. When I read your last message I had to...

    Canadian National pass car numbers

Don't worry, you've been more help than I've gottne so far. Just a couple questions though. Where is the belt rail? Is it just below the windows? I'm guessing the letterboard is just above the windows then? Now that the diner had the numbers centerd over the trucks, would a coach be the same...

    Canadian National pass car numbers

I'm repainting 4 Athearn Heavyweight passenger cars in Candian national colors, pre-1954 (Green with black roof). I need CN car numbers for a diner and an observation car. The observation car probably would be named as well? Doctor Wayne? CNnutbar? Anyone?

    Getting back into the hobby!

Wecome to the gauge. I could answer a few of your questions but the DCC question will have to go to someone else. The atlas and Athearn engines should work fine with a through cleaning. Athearns are basically bulletproof with a mechanism that just keeps going. The Atlas track should work just...

    RDC rubber bands

I beleive a company called ernst mfg. made a gear conversion for the athearn RDC some years ago. That might be an alternative if you can find them.

    Another Juneco Car project

Welcome to the Guage Bill. The Juneco kits are nice in my opinion but you have to take your time. When the paint cures I'll mask the sides and paint the top and underside black. I also stripped 4 athearn passenger cars that I apinted 16 years ago that I wasn't happy with I plan to paint those...

Tetter's Layout Progress and Other Pics.

I like that marker technique too. I've always shied away from markers and paint pens think that 'if it's too easy it's not craftsmanship.' You've obviouly proven me wrong. Maybe I'll try it on my layout.

    Another Juneco Car project

I'm finishing off a Juneco CNR express reefer that I started almost 5 years ago when I was in the Hospital waiting for back surgery. It gets pretty boring in there so I had to do something to keep my mind occupied. Anyway I had finished most of the car except som small details that I remember...

    Juneco Caboose

As luck would have it I went to an estate sale of a fellow modeller last night and what was in one of the boxes: The two steps up front are broken but in the box. It should be repaired over the weekend. Not bad for 5 bucks right? I still plan to build the other caboose, using this one as...

    Town layout suggestions

Thanks all. I think I'll go with the third picture with the machine shop on the end and tucked a little back from the road. I'll move the boardwalk from it and move that down to the show repair shop.

    Town layout suggestions

I think the two type of buildings compare okay, maybe the Woodland scenics buildings are a little smaller for the scene. Funny thing is that I just got rid of a two story building where the machine shop is because I didn't like it. Here's a different arrangment:

    New buildings on the layout.

Kevin, I built the station about 15 years ago and if my memory serves me right there was enough material in the kit to make the second platform. The space between the two tracks is 3" and the widest part of the building (the roof) is 2". Here's a different angle for you:

    Town layout suggestions

In my previous post I showed some of my new buildings that I added to my 'small town main street. Now when looking at it I have a few questions on the layout of the buildings. Here's two pictures: (the tan shell of a building is a Woodland scenics machine shop) Now After seeing the two...

    New buildings on the layout.

Thanks everyone. Here's the other end of the street: The Shoe repair is there and the shell of the building is the machine shop that you mentioned Ed. I've only airbrushed it rust so I can brsh paint over and leave little 'rust-spots in place. Kevin, I have already built the Flag...

    New buildings on the layout.

I just finished two building on the layout. The First is a woodland scenics Branchline Water tower It's a nice kit. almost all white metal castings except for the tank tube which is really thin basswood. You have to soak the wood in some hot water and wrap it around a broom handle...
