I just gotta know - please lots of responses!

Prototype railroads seem to own from 15 to 30 cars per loco. The highest ration is in the east and the lowest in the western roads. Merry Christmas!

    How about those modules?

Andrew, I think that my Walthers TT is about 3" deep. It just fits in a hole in the layout. I use 1/2" blue foam.

    How Do You Cut Facia?

I design the scenery on paper or in my head-bone first. Then I cut the fascia with a sabre saw (jig saw?) and then match the scenery to the fascia.

    Mann's Creek Hopper

Drew, Very nice work! I'd like a few of those but it looks like work. I had not thought of building narrow gauge kits as standard. :)

Searching for Scale Information - Newbie

Some folks use Bachmann On30 with Dept. 56 Christmas villages. Most of the Dept. 56 figures are a bit over sized anyway. Merry Christmas!

    Blue foam or foam blues?

I can't resist touting my 1/2" blue foam on 1/2" plywood method ("Oh, sure you can", voices chime in.) Everything above the table top is 1/2" extruded foam (Ignore the white stuff, it was a mistake!) Four modules connected with carriage bolts. The cookie cutter method was used for all...

Which of these represents your local train shop/dealer?

My LTS here in the DFW (TX) area is great! And it's a Train store not a hobby shop. Friendly, helpful staff. Plenty of stock. Gobs of stuff. Special orders with no deposit. Easy returns. Mail order. 20% discount on everything but decoders (10%). They have demo tracks for...

Alternative (EASY!) Method to plastering scenery (Pics!)

Alex, Great idea. Thanks! I think that this will work especially well for some smaller hard-to-reach places that I have. Around bridges that I've already installed, for example. I used the more conventional method to apply most of my hardshell and it's easy to "plant" trees by punching...

    Where is your layout located?

My layout is in the 2nd floor "media" room. The layout is about 6'X17'. The room is 18 X 14 and also has our "office" the opposite wall. We moved the "media" to the spare BR that we used to use as a office. That's working our great. This was the idea of my understanding wife and it's...

    Latest 0n30 scratchbuild

Paul, Amazing as usual! I hope that you've added the "terrain" with a photo editor. Or is that modeled too?

    Next addition to The Academy?

Thanks for the work on rebuilding th academy! This is very timely for me and I'm sure it will be valuable for "generations of model railroaders to come".:) Really! Thanks,

    Train Movies of note

The Railway Children has some very nice scenes of British RR in the pre-auto era. It takes place around a small country station. A real nice story about some children and the impact they had on the folks around them. Masterpiece Theater is the latest version. Nobody does movies like the Brits.

    My early days

Paul, Available as in "for sale"? I hope. I listened to Toots when I was a "kid". I still have the LP of "The Sound". Did you ever run across any Texas harmonica players. Does the name Don Sanders ring a bell?

    My early days

Paul, What a guy! That was great. Toot's "The Sound" and the "Staff McMann Trio" are my favorites, I think. Got any CD's available? I'm a member of HOOT http://www.hoottexas.com/ HOOT is hosting the 2003 SPAH convention in Dallas next week. See you there? Best Regards,

Does anyone have photos of their layouts?

Greg, Here are some "Progress Photos" such as they are. Have fun,

Another hobby shop bites the dust

I notice that most of you are in Canada so this may not be of much help, except for the "business model" aspect. Discount Model Trains in Addison, Texas (Dallas area) has been in business for about 20 years, I think. DMT is a train-only shop with plenty of stock and knowledgeable staff. DMT...

Best DCC System to run with HO & Sounttraxx?

Greg, I believe that 2-rail gaps and feeders are highly recommended for DCC. Not common rail. :)
  19. jwmurrayjr

After laying the track. What is the next step?

Greg, Reconsider DCC. It's simple, easy, and magic! It'll make your layout a "dream" railroad. Looks like you've got all of the expensive stuff already.

What is a good transformer for HO trains?

Greg, I'm really surprised that no one has suggested DCC. For $110 to $160 you could get a good starter set and enjoy the advantages of DCC. Maybe I missed it. Do you want to run DC only with cab control? With DCC you can start simple and later expand if you want. Do you have many...
