    Really bashed vehicles.

I had not looked at 1/64 cars for years & recently had a friend tell me that there were so many more being made that I could really expand the number of cars enough to make a really fantastic diorama ------ Sooooooooo -- I went looking . WAS HE RIGHT!! I'm glad I don't have a wife to ask where...

    Really bashed vehicles.

Because these were built so many years ago no one made a Cord sedan at that time-- this one was made of 2 VW front halves spliced back to back & the rest made from aluminum disposable baking tins , the tan sedan was also a VW to start. The model A pickup started life as a sedan delivery.

    Really bashed vehicles.

I don't remember if I'v shown my wrecked cars here before or not. These are 1/64 cars (S scale) I'm building to do a junk yard. I just bought a BUNCH more & will show one in progress. The finished ones were done about 20 years ago & now I'm going to do enough to build a diorama of the kind of...

    Scratch-Bashed Service station

Here is a little HO project I did a while back . It was made from a few scraps of a Plasticville suburban house , odds & ends & a bit of brass. The gas pumps & all the accessories , except the Pepsi cooler are scratched, the tires are O rings with tread added to them.I made trhe corrugated...

    Tulle uummm or TOOL?

I read the excellent chain link Fence building thread that Doug ? posted a while back. Today I went looking for some -- finally got it & learned in the process that you best ask for TOOL in a fabric shop or you get a blank stare . hamr

    Frusterated with LBF Boxcar Kits

When I buy screws I get the longest one they have. How I cut them down is, I have a strip of .060 brass with holes drilled & tapped from 00-90 thru 2-56 . I screw one in till it is the length I want & then cut the excess off with a cut off disk, this cleans the thread & all you need do is...

Building a 40s auto transport Truck

Funny You should mention that! ( apoligies to Myron Cohen ) since I read the post about split W/S , I have been looking as I drive around town --- I see a lot of Split glass on latemodel big rigs, did not look too hard for visors but I will now.

    Rivarossi parts?

Well, I called Golf Manor Hobbies this morning & even their parts man was shocked about the price of the springs & screws. He did not do the billing on them & at first thought they would have been $2.45 apiece. he said " Yeah, $2.45 is a bit much for a screw ,but they are scarce" --- when I told...

    Bachmann HO Metroliner

Is there any possibility of using the drive mechanism out of a Tyco Chantanooga Choo Choo unit? That set had a drive in the tender , worked faily well , they are cheap & might be able to be modified to work.

    Rivarossi parts?

Man!! Do I wish I had not felt so lazy that day. I got my parts today & the credit card charges-- they would not look up the prices when I ordered them -- but how much can a few little pieces cost? A LOT!! FIFTY TWO PLUS DOLLARS ALL TOLD!! The motor bracket I needed was only $3.40...

    Early Mantua Locomotives

I had seen that one on E bay before, the pictures are so poor its hard to tell much. However the apparent side rod style , with the appearence of a joint in them & the way the handrails curve at the point they connect with the pilot, make it look like it could be the same as the mike I have...

    Early Mantua Locomotives

Thanks, thats kind of what I was thinking ,late 40s or early fifties. For being that old this one is in good shape , other than the broken off crosshead guide hanger. I fixed that by fabricating a new hanger from brass angle , soldering a 1/16 dia. round bar to it & CA-ing it in a hole drilled...

    Early Mantua Locomotives

Have any of you ever taken an Early Mantua Steam Loco apart? They ARE BUILT! I bought one on E bay a while ago , a Mikado, I knew it was somewhat old, still not sure how old. The Hanger for the crosshead guide was broken off on one side, so I got it for a comparative song. I...

How do you use a #79 Drill Bit?

I cut all the brass for my scratch building with cutoff disks both the 7/8 diameter & the 1-1/2 diameter size --- all freehand, both material & Dremel, neither supported , but then I've had a lot of practice demonstrating them at shows over 17 years of marketing them. Happy to know there...

Building a 40s auto transport Truck

I wish I had known that before I built the nose----- BUT, considering that the trailer was the most captivating item I wanted to model I probably will leave the nose as is. It was a lot of work , being brass & all. I have some pretty neat stuff ( I think) to use for the grill-- It's part of the...

How do you use a #79 Drill Bit?

Ever tried using the FACE of the disk to grind with? Or carving brass with one? If you can actually use up a Dremel disk you have a VERY steady , practiced hand indeed. They usually don't last that long. :curse:

How do you use a #79 Drill Bit?

Wayne: Keep asking for "The Good Ones" and you are liable to end up with some of my cut off disks! sign1 I called them that for the very reason you mentioned in the statement about drill bits-- once anybody tried them & somebody offered them a Dremel disk thats what they said 'No--- I want...

Building a 40s auto transport Truck

A while back a friend loaned me a book on trucks thru the years, in browsing in it I ran across a picture of an auto transport truck of the 40's. I was captivated by it , it was an enclosed trailer, I decided I needed one. here is the progress on it, the cab is a modified Athearn Kenworth ( at...
