    Paper Creek Models

I spent most of my Friday on a Paper Creek N scale building kit that I have had on the shelf for nearly three years. The delay in tackling the construction was a fear of the kit. Well some of it was well founded, it didn't fall together and it is all paper, but I am pleased with the outcome so...

    Rebuilding the Old Plant

This is the third layout the plant, in some form, has functioned. The part that make up the entire scene are mostly 12-15 years old and have been salvaged and re-used, as they are here. New modelers, never throw away anything. Save every scrap, every leftover part.

    Advice Please

DN163K0A, and yes they do run in DC. They run fine in DCC as long as I push on the plug that holds the board down. Its just that I'd like to run them with the shell on and not have to trot around the layout putting pressure on the plug.

    Advice Please

I installed decoders in my PA-1 and E8's (Kato). The PA's are running fine, but the E8's are giving me fits! I can gently push on the top of the plug over the decoder and get them to move, but nothing else seems to help. I taped the plug down, and nada. I taped the back of the decoder and nada...

    Help???

While operating yesterday there was an unusual sound? Several beeps, more like a honk, and then it stopped? (no shorts or other obvious problems) This is on a Digitrax Super Chief system. I shut down the power to the track and then turned off the system completely. Turning it back on, nothing...

    Weathering Question

I want to weather a repair shop/gas station. Normally I use powers and dry brushing, maybe other stuff, but this time I want to airbrush a general weathering, like the accumulation of dust & dirt and age from sitting on the corner for the last forty years... Any suggestions of colors to mix. I...

    Saying farwell

Gil, I would recommend hospice, not only for you, but for your loved ones. There is much that is provided, but the most important thing is the loving support and goal of making every day the best day it can be for as long as you live. I am a hospice Chaplain here in Corpus Christi, and know...

    Intermountain F7 Decoder Question

No Help I wish I could help, but sadly I have not fixed my problem yet so the blind leading the blind results in both of us falling in the ditch. I really like the detail on the F7 and if I could find another Espee bloody nose "A" unit I would buy it and dumb me try yet another decoder...

    Intermountain F7 Decoder Question

So I got a F7 and a DN163l13. Following the instructions I removed the leads for the headlight and re-installed them on the decoder. I programmed the decoder and the lights worked fine and the engine ran beautifully. BUT!!! When I turned off the headlights the F7 took off at light speed and...

    Playing with expanding foam insulation.

I use a lot of it on the layout. When dry its easy to cut and shape, takes scenery, paint, scenic paste. Remember that it does EXPAND... about twice the size you sprayed.... This is one corner with most all the scenery having a "Great Stuff" base... DocGeoff

What have you learned from model railroading?

I have learned; (1) how fast I can spend money, especially now as opposed to eighteen years ago when I started. Well I learned that then, too; (2) several skills, scenery (still learning); (3) how to improvise, adapt and overcome; (4) how many mistakes I can make in a very short time; (5) how...

    F40PH Decoder Install

I purchased three Digitrax Dn163K0d decoders for my F40PH's. I installed the first one and it programmed and ran wonderfully. The second and third would program, change lighting directions when direction was changed, but no turn the motor? I can push down on the plug on one of the two and it...
