How Do You Guys Do It?

Total agreement here. When I first started looking at what buildings I wanted to use, someone suggested doing cardstock mockups to see about size and functionality. About that time my wife ran across some of those Dover "Cut and Assemble" books on sale in the local book store. They were HO...

How Do You Guys Do It?

I agree with Don. You have to enjoy it to want to do it. In my case, I have been 3 years working on my layout. Time? Well, we have no kids, but I do own my own business and also am under contract to do computer sales and service at a local shop, that gets me 40-42 hours a week. I usually do...

    Strange e-mail

"We cannot do it without you." But you just alienated half your users, by saying they are not worthy of being members. Can you say "oxymoron"?

    Model Power Buildings

I am in full agreement with Ed, the DPM kits look far better. Most of the buildings on my "Downtown Diorama" are DPM, very nice kits to put together.

Excellent work Stephen. What scale are you working in? As Matthew says, Robin was a master, his work is a must see.

    ???? about structure placement.

My general rule is structures that require track "IN" them should be placed at the same time the track is laid. Other structures can be kitbashed into submission.

    foam advice

Foam is great for "terraforming" your landscape. The ONLY problem I found with the foam was I had laid my track and then picked up 14 Tortoise Switches. Mounting the Tortoises under 2" of foam proofed a problem, so I am replacing the foam in those sections with plywood. much easier to screw the...

    Video of the gorge(my layout)

FSM, I own a computer service business. I read all the time. I have read several of the sites you mention, I also am intelligent enough to know that not everything I read on the internet can be taken as "gospel". I go by what I see and work on everyday. BTW, Microsoft would never "admit it...

    Video of the gorge(my layout)

You know, I hear this all the time, but I have yet to experience it. Oh sure, maybe if you haven't tried IE since version 4 (that version sure had it's problems), or you happened to try Beta 1 of IE7... I am now using IE7 and have had zero problems.

    Idea in the works

Looks OK, but seems to serve no purpose.... There are only 2 sidings with NOTHING around them, no reason for them to be where they are. With a round and round layout like that, I would think you would get bored quickly.

    N Scale Steam

Our club has the Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0, it is by far the BEST steamer we have. The club has 9 steamers, everything from MiniTrix to Atlas to Model Power. I recently picked up the Model Power 4-4-0, it is a sweet little steamer. It runs prototypically, in that it can pull about 4-6 cars...

    Video of the gorge(my layout)

Good stuff Collyn, and don't worry about IE, most use it anyway. Over 80% of the users will be able to see it.

    Online Shopping?

Best Canadian Mail/Online dealer in my opinion is Canadian Express Lines. Dave Cool own it (yes, that is his real name). http://canadianexpressline.com/ Even though his current website does not mention N Scale, Dave can get it for you. d.cool@sympatico.ca

DCC or DC to power trains

Well, Rick, they are using the Digitrax system, there are 5 power zones. And it seems that on any given night, there are 1 or 2 with problems. Last week, they had 4 zones working and one not. Three fellows spent 3 hours trying to find the short. it turned out that a small nail had gotten...

    11 - 10 .... What's your secret

I don't have any pets right now. Personally I think a cat is not worth the space it takes up. However, I have had dogs in the past and never had troubles with them.

DCC or DC to power trains

From what I have seen of DCC systems, I would NOT want to go there. At our club we have 4 members "trying" to run DCC at home and we have wired the club's 12'x40' HO layout for DCC. Of the four fellows with home layouts, NONE have fully working layouts in DCC, there is always something going...
