Bachmann Spectrum NW 4-8-4 Class J

Hi Nick - Dunno why no replies here, so I'll try to help. Firstly, I don't have the "J" & my B'mann's don't have that coupling - BUT - a piece of plastic or metal tubing ~1/2" long (just don't foul trackwork) attached to the tender w/a longer screw (& washer under the head, if needed to keep...

    Help with Riva AC-11 resto?

Hi all - I have a Rivarossi SP AC-11 Cab-forward, missing the pilot deck & some of it's substructure, and a molded boiler fitting is broken off (I think). Is there anyone with a complete one who is willing to email pix/sketches/descriptions of the parts I need to rebuild? Missing air pumps...

    Primers for airbrushing acrylics?

Hi Tom - Thanks for the reply - experienced folks here are saving me a lot of experimental grief.:thumb: On sealing - can a sealer bonding to a paint *not* bonded to the metal prevent the paint from still easily coming off? And Jim - tnx for the note on sandables - sure don't need to add...

    Primers for airbrushing acrylics?

Hi Jim - Thanks for the info - acrylics bond well to automotive-type primers then? To All: Tech query - other than mebbe finer pigments, since all acrylics are waterbased (aren't they?), what makes some better (pricier) than others? Or are there significant chemical differences? BTW, I'm...

    Primers for airbrushing acrylics?

Hi all - I recently got an airbrush setup, and need a little help with basics. For convenience, I'm learning with acrylics: a flat black sprayed onto an old, stripped metal Mantua shell scratches off with the lightest scrape - how should I prepare the metal so that I get a bond? I haven't...

    Mystery Switchers

Just occurred to me - Ray's #3 & brakies pic are 2-truck (early body?) CR-8's that look like the 1-truck CR-4 prototype for the Mantua. Wonder if there's a 1-truck CR-? that looks like Ray's #1&2 pics, and is the true prototype for the Mehano?

    Mystery Switchers

Great work, Ray! I'm surprised it's "only" 65t w/2-trucks, when CR-4 is 60t on single. Studying over the selection of pics you've found, there's a bunch of minor detail diffs, and from other Plymouth pics I've seen, a great variety of model designations. Pic 1&2 have side grills/vert...

    Mystery Switchers

Hi all - A final note - I found this on: http://www.citycat.hdud.idv.tw/indexing.htm (LOTSA innerstin' switchers in "Special Vehicles" section - long loadtime but quite a payoff!). This, details aside, is obviously the Plymouth prototype for the Mehano above, just freelanced...
