    Dec. 28 Weekly Photo Fun

4 Locomotives This one's from 8/05 - I'd been back in the hobby only 4 months and was still buying anything I liked. Only the SP Black Widow diesel is left on the roster out of this group of locomotives... <Sniff> I've also moved on to Code 83 track... Here's to an even better 2008!

    Reversing Loop + Peco Turnout + ?????

Thank you for such a quick reply! I've downloaded the information in that other thread for when / if I convert to DCC. For now, I'm still running a DC layout and I don't know whether there are any reverse loop modulators for "plain old" DC. If not, I'll need some other kind of solution.

    Reversing Loop + Peco Turnout + ?????

I'll bet this topic has been posted before, but the Search feature didn't bring up anything quite like what I'm trying to find out, so at the risk of repeating 'common knowledge', I'll start a new thread. Simply put, if I'm using a Peco Insulfrog power-routing turnout at the 'throat' of a...

thinking of getting a new locomotive

And IMHO better than a lot of older brass, too, from an operational POV. I've been selling off some of my Athearn, P1K, P2K, etc. diesels to buy more T55s - they are so sweet! I think I have at least six or seven now.

    Another reason I hate ebay...

Whenever I buy or sell something on eBay, I always send a short email similar to these: To Buyers: Thanks for your winning bid! We will leave positive feedback for you on eBay once your item has arrived and you leave us positive feedback. We appreciate your business! To Sellers: Thanks...

    Any Bend Trackers here?

I've looked at a lot of modular specifications (even though no part of my HO layout is intended to be transported, e.g., to a show). I like the efficient use of space of Bend Track; my primary concern is the "S" curves in the balloon modules.

    Another reason I hate ebay...

I've been on eBay since 1999, and although I flirt with being 'Power Seller' from time to time, I don't consider myself a "professional" eBayer. I have a total of 1569 positive feedbacks from 929 different buyers & sellers, which works out to about 15 transactions a month. I have bought a lot of...

    Another reason I hate ebay...

If you use Square Trade, they can help you negotiate with the other party (re) disputes, negative feedback, etc. I've had a ST account for years and although I've never had to use their service (knock wood), the peace of mind has been worth the monthly fee, kinda like insurance...

    My First Layout (R&R Rail)...

Thank you! 35 of my diesels already have a plug for a decoder. Plus 4 of my steam locomotives are already DCC-equipped, and another 4 have a decoder plug. Hmmm ... maybe I'm closer than I thought to getting my feet wet with DCC. Especially when whatever I equip for DCC will still run OK on my DC...

    My First Layout (R&R Rail)...

I agree completely. Eight diesels on my current roster came DCC-equipped and ready to be programmed on a club layout should I ever decide to participate.

    My First Layout (R&R Rail)...

I would love to know where you can get decoders for that price. I have 85 locomotives that would need to be converted if I was even vaguely thinking about going over to DCC. As things stand right now, I run DC with power-routing turnouts so I can "run" multiple trains, just one at a time while...

    Steam Engine Rosters

Any time I see the words "should" and "shouldn't" in any discussion of "hobby" it raises my hackles. Yes, if you're modeling a strict prototype, it's probably more realistic to be consistent with the prototype, and I know that being strictly prototype is the "in" thing to do these days in model...

What do do, what to do?

I completely agree with this suggestion! I don't want to have to make up my mind -- I want to be able to run everything from steam-diesel transition to current-day equipment, so I make everything on the layout modular, including the structures and details, such as they are (I am an...

    Are your trains an escape?

I run my own business and it's like they say, you sleep like a baby -- you wake up every two hours and cry -- so for me, my railroad models are definitely an escape. Even if all I have time for is a quick trip, just going out to the train room, turning on the power and running a train is...

So, what does your wife think?

I'm the next step: she doesn't have anything to do with model railroading, but I've done nearly a dozen quilts since I got started in "her" hobby 18 months ago. Not bad for a guy who had never used a sewing machine before in his life. I go to quilt classes with her, although we do quite...

    HO in the 70's

70's? You young kids, honestly... I got my first HO equipment in '58, including a little Tyco 0-6-0T switch engine than ran and ran and ran until I took a temporary (for about 40 years) leave of absence from the hobby in 1966. Ah, those were the days ... brass track that had to be cleaned every...

Wall Brackets and Foam Construction Questions

I have an opportunity to build a new HO scale layout, basically starting over from scratch. I'd like to build it around-the-walls, but the cost of "traditional" benchwork is outside of the available budget, so I'm considering using "L" brackets attached to the walls every 18" to 24" to support...
