    Temporary Layout 4x2

Yeah, possibly. I want to divide the layout on a diagonal with a small hill and trees. I have a few more small buildings and vehicles I can throw in as well. I don't want to get into it too much, as we're going to be shopping for a house within the next couple months. But I do need to get...

    Temporary Layout 4x2

Since I don't have the space yet, I decided to set up a little 4'x2' piece of plywood and throw some track on it so I can run my engines. I got to say, I'm so glad I run N-Scale and not anything bigger. It's a double oval with a basic switch-over and two tiny spurs. But it's enough that I can...

    Some pics of my layout

I've been away a while...but it's always nice to come back and see these awesome pics. It really is inspiring to get back to work :)

Issue with Bachmann F7 AB Powered Units

I toyed with the A unit again last night. It's getting power, as the headlight is coming on. I took the shell off again and spun the engine gear and the wheels are moving freely. I got the feeling the engine itself is shot. If that's the case, I find that a little disturbing. I'm probably...

Issue with Bachmann F7 AB Powered Units

I can't imagine that they need a "break-in" run. I have 6 other engines (4 Atlas, 1 Lifelike, and 1 other Bachmann). All but one of these is older than the F7 AB and they all run beautifully. Ironically, the 1 other Bachmann is a Sante Fe F7 that came with a starter set and that runs better...

Issue with Bachmann F7 AB Powered Units

So I've had these F7 Spectrum units for about 6-7 years. They were never run much...a total of maybe 20 minutes...up until recently when I finally got my track laid tried putting it through some paces. It did not run as good as I'd expected back then, but I wrote it off as poor wiring to the...

New Layout Under Construction (The NCRR)

Thanks  Right, no DCC. I'm going to restricting the direction of the engines to run only left (clockwise) around the layout, so I opted to leave the blocks as is. That's why I separated the passing track. An engine can sit idle at the left end of the passing track while one pulls...

New Layout Under Construction (The NCRR)

I finished laying the track (Atlas Code 80) this weekend. I'll be starting the wiring this week at some point. Not really much to look at but I took some pics of the progress:

Some preliminary construction pics. Doesn't show much, but the cookie-cut grades are obvious.

New Layout Under Construction (The NCRR)

Figure I'd post the block schematic. 8 Blocks total. I split the passing track into two blocks, so an engine can come up behind the other without hogging the mainline.

New Layout Under Construction (The NCRR)

NCRR = Nickel City Rail Road So I FINALLY started laying the groundwork this weekend for my first "real" layout. It will be built upon a 80"x32" hollow door. So far, I've verified where the track will lay, made some adjustments to the original plan, and cookie-cut the two grades. Not much...
