Hi all,
I built the "complex" NASA Cassini-Huygens satellite paper model in 2004 but haven't had time to do any more since! I did purchase Cyana's (Microartwork) Apollo Crawler Transporter when it came out a few years ago, and my ultimate goal at the moment is to be able to do that justice, but I've recognised that I need to build up some proper skills and experience first, so as I know I'll have more free time on my hands soon, I'm back having a go at paper/card modelling.

I also hope to revive my plastic scale modelling pursuits of old as well, though the card stuff is substantially cheaper with so many free models available :)

My interests are predominantly space, fictional and real (I love the Apollo era stuff), and I live in the UK.

Thanks for letting me join and I look forward to learning a lot from you all.

Hello and welcome to Zealot. You have come to the right place for all things paper (as well as other mediums). Even though the content of this forum may seem to be SCI-FI heavy (and it more than likely is), every genre is welcomed and encouraged to be displayed. We have many members who have a very strong interest in "real space" and will be more than happy to share their knowledge and experience with you.

If you have any photos of models that you have built in the past, by all means, please post them. We love seeing photos.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, need help or advice, please feel free to ask. We will do what all we can to help you (or at least point you in the right direction).

When you do build a model I would like to invite you to post build threads of your projects. Build threads are a great way to show off your skills and techniques, as well as to highlight problem areas that you may need help with or show how you were able to solve said problem.

Once again welcome aboard. I hope that you enjoy yourself.

Welcome to Zealot!! Feel free to post any pics you have of anything you have built in this thread. Space, Sci-Fi, you've joined the right forum!

I'll add mu Welcome Aboard!

I love real space, and sci fi. I also paint miniatures for Dungeons&Dragons, Build plastic models too.

You'll love it here, and you can learn a lot, and even teach.

So, having been here a few months now, and having done my first full build, complete with some greebling (https://www.zealotmodels.com/threads/nasa-voyager-1-48-john-jogerst.182727/), I'm very definitely going to be continuing with this new hobby over the long term, despite some challenges. I was diagnosed and treated in 2023 for Choroidal Melanoma in my right eye, a very rare and aggressive tumour behind the retina of the eye. The treatment was successful in neutralising the tumour, but it left me with rather damaged vision in that eye. When looking at things in the distance it's fine, my brain uses my left eye fully and fills in with what's remains of my right eye vision, but when I'm working on things close up, I've realised ... mostly while doing that first model of the Voyager spacecraft ... that I have no depth of field or 3d picture of what I'm looking at. So simple things like putting parts together, getting glue into the right spot, working under magnifying glasses etc. are all a bit compromised as I can't sense how near or far away the parts in my hands are.

I'm not going to let this stop me in any way but it does explain my choice of new username (if approved by mods) from the original Tesco4 to ... Cyclops!

See you in the form threads!

Its always hard if you have any problems with your eye's. For me I have one dominant eye the other I can see something but not that much. So I often get headache and feeling really tired after doing concentrate work.
