Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Steve: Great to see you back in action. Love the new addition. Keep up the great work!

A little more than a year in the making

Wayne, Thanks for visiting. I was planning on placing a backdrop on the south side of the interchange, and cutting a hole in it. I haven't gotten around to the layout doodle with all of the roads, mountains, etc. yet; maybe this week. As for the swing door, I like the idea. I'll have to...

Do you see DCC for me

The only thing I don't like about the Zephyr control unit is that it will not use function keys above F8. For that, you need a utility throttle. All 4 of my P2K DCC sound locos have functions above that level. Not a big issue, but something to keep in the back of your mind.

    For HO? Please do tell!

A little more than a year in the making

Squid: I read a article in MR Magazine sometime last year about a series of layouts that were not physically connected, but the owners banded together and decided that they would use each others layouts as one large layout. They would move rolling stock between each others layouts to allow...

Can't wait to see the progress made!

A little more than a year in the making

Galen: I think this was what you were trying to explain to me in post #20. I took your advice and eliminated the "S" curves. I also like the idea of a low relief mine structure; that was kinda what I was thinking as well. The Walthers kit is great bashing fodder. As for the mine area...

A little more than a year in the making

Just say No to N-Scale I have considered it. For the space I have, it would have been perfect. But, I have always been an HO'er, and will continue to be. As I get older, my eyesight deteriorates, my fingers get fatter, and my head gets balder (not sure what that has to do with trains)...

A little more than a year in the making

I think it was in John Armstrong's Track Planning for Realistic Operation; I remember reading about it. You're thinking of something like this: I keep trying to fit the large Walthers Tipple into this layout; it is just too darn big. I think I will use either the Slack Loading House, or...

A little more than a year in the making

Here is the latest The newest in a series of layouts by me. I switched the positions of the interchange and the mine, dropped a few industries, and made a liftout bridge for continuous running. What do you think? Much more operational interest, and more visual interest.

Don't laugh too hard...It's my first attempt!

Steve: I seem to remember (maybe) that you had both mining and logging on your layout. Maybe you should also think about adding a few company houses to the layout; you know, the "little people" need a place to live. I looked at these company houses for my layout...

    A gentle reminder...

Steve, let me give you a hand stepping down off of the perch sign1 . I would have to agree now, as I did then, that this is a place for the exchange of information. Remember that the dumbest question is the one not asked, and sometimes, we all have "senior moments" (for me, at least once a...

A little more than a year in the making

I was thinking, what if I reversed the sides a bit. I was thinking about switching the interchange with the mine. They are about the same size (I think about 6" in difference), and it would allow me to scene the ENTIRE right side of the layout. The industries and the interchange could be...

A little more than a year in the making

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Love to hear the details. I'm planning on keeping the printer. My company had a printing facility in South Carolina that was served via rail and CSX. Paper came in on boxcar for the facility (about 9 cars per week). It is something that I want to keep...

Pull coating off foam or not

Thanks guys. I pulled up my layout yesterday; I will have to say that the nice thing about leaving the film on was that everything came off of the foam without any problems. I will be able to re-use it for my new layout. So, plastic off it is.

    progress on my layout

Pikestuff Modern Small Engine House (Walthers Part No. 541-5000) is a single bay house. I got one for my layout. Cost me all of $10.00

Pull coating off foam or not

As I was tearing out my old layout, I noticed that everything came off of my blue extruded foam rather easily. I was using white latex caulk to put the roadbed on the foam, and the clear latex to place the track to the roadbed (that would NOT come off without a fight). My foam has about a 1...

A little more than a year in the making

Updated Plan without the Duckunder Ok, so I took everyone's advice and ditched the duckunder :thumb: . I will not have a continuous run capability, but after much soul searching, I decided that it was OK. So, here is the revised plan for your consideration. Same stuff as before, just a...

Would Love Comments on This Design

Bearman, I hope you have gotten your "land manager" a killer Valentines Day gift this year:D . Trust me, I know what the cost of negotiation is; I lost half of the garage when I gained rights to the junk room. . .

A little more than a year in the making

Do you have any idea what the attention span of a 3, 4, and 5 year old is???? sign1 About the same as mine sometimes. . . Yes, they are important to me, but it is MY train (do you see the only child coming out :D ). I see your point, and I think I realized it today myself.
