John C Butler Class DE Build

Atually what I've done so far was a free download of a Uraguay NAvy CAnnon Class DE. I used Adobe Acrobat to up size it to 155% to get it in the 1:200 range. The deck and hull sides were included, So I'm just gonna enlarge them too. Need to sand the frame up real good. As a mater of general...

John C Butler Class DE Build

Made some progress today! Slotted the bulkheads, and cut out the stringers at the waterline. Glued it all together, still needs some sanding, but its starting to look like a DE! First view is from above.....the second from the keel. Card modeling is too cool!

Ok....I have collected enough data, and I think I'll start the show. This is my first full hull build and its gonna be a kit/scratch/bash. Enlarged the plans for the hull and laminated them to the cardboard backing off of an old drawing pad. Now the fun part, cutting out the keel and the...

An Opinion needed on WWII DEs

OK...I've upscaled a Free download Cannon Class found on the net to roughly 1:200 scale. Is there a rule of thumb about how far apart the bulkheads need to be in the eggcrate to make a really good support? Would 9 bulkheads of 1mm cardboard in roughly 18" be sufficient, or do I need to fab up...

An Opinion needed on WWII DEs

OK class, Do the John C Butler Class and Cannon Class DEs share the same hull? Both wre built in 1943 and are significantly different in a lot of ways, but can a full hull model of one be used to support the deck and superstructure of another? http://www.navsource.org/archives/06/099.htm...

Looking to do the HMS Surprise

The Enterprise plans seem to be close to the Surprize in her "Nelson Chequer" preferred by Jack Aubry. This seems that it would only require modification to the paint scheme on her hull. Indeed, the plans look very similar to the Cleo as printed. Seems I got the last Cleo from the Paper Model...
