HMCS Ottawa II - build progress

Some progress being made. Attached pix shows target build configuration, replaced after funnel, and prototype 20mm dry fit. I managed to replace the funnel without causing too much damage. The 20mm requires some refining prior to building them all.

HMCS Ottawa II - build progress

Beejay - A friend of mine (dreaded plastic modeler) just lent me that book. Looks like the two gun version it is. I am not looking forward to building those tiny hedgehog bomblets. Rick - It never hurts to ask. :)

HMCS Ottawa II - build progress

Beejay - I made it to the museum and got a picture of her 1943 configuration. I will be returning to see what else they have for this time period. I have also contacted a colleague at the Fleet Maintenance Facility in Halifax. He is going to check the drawing office archives to see if they have...

HMCS Ottawa II - build progress

My research indicates this configuration is from the end of the war, after her refit in 1944. When delivered to the RCN she had 3, 4.75s 6, Orlikons 1, set TTs 1, 3" HA gun 2, depth charge racks and most of the changes you state above. During the refit the after house was also...

    HMS Alert 1777

As a young sailor, I spent many days on my hands and knees holey stoning (rubbing with a block of volcanic pumice) the teak deck on HMCS CAPE BRETON. The deck never appeared brown. Before holey stoning it was a medium grey with a very light greenish hue. Afterwards it was a light grey.

    Let the debate begin...

The GPMs look very interesting to me. The assembly diagrams are better than most I have seen. Most seem to assume you know as much about the subject as the designer.

HMCS Ottawa II - build progress

thanks beejay. The aft TT and X mount are just dry fits. It's the build them all and fit the best to the model theory. I appreciate all your input and the information you posted. I have started scratch building the depth charge rack(s). A link to the photos in the RCN archive would be nice.

HMCS Ottawa II - build progress

A little more progress. This model has very good fit and I have experienced no problems. If I had one complaint about this design it is the layout of parts on the various pages. The parts for a single structure can be spread out over several pages. I could understand this if the parts were very...

    ANSWER - PT 109 Build

Well I got my markers but have started on HMCS OTTTAWA while waiting. I'd guess I'll be back to this build once I get to the fiddly bits of OTTAWA. I really like these markers by the way - http://www.cardmodels.net/forum/showthread.php?p=82026#post82026

    Tsarist battleships project

Great model. I am also interested in ships from this period. Designers of machines then had so much more art in their designs.

Whoops  Sorry about that. I missed that point entirely. Doh! Must be the solar flares, yeah, that's it. I agree , the 'the' is a bad habit and I shall discipline myself immediately.

Thanks for the picture, now I have a 3rd possible configuration. Hopefully the museum can provide some definitive information.
