    Rivets revisited

Charlie, Suggest acrylic modeling paste sold at most art stores. It can be applied like spackle, knifed off and allowed to dry. It's great for making paper and embossed detail tough. Makes good joint filler and weld lines too. Gil

    Rivets revisited

Charlie, I found that scribing lines and shapes in a sheet of plexiglass allows panel and access panels to be quickly and easily embosed. It's also neat to use it to emboss a ridge line on both closure ends of a fuselage section one is coated with cement and fit into the other. Makes a...

    Rivets revisited

Charlie, Embossing is a great technique. Suprising that it's not discussed more on this forum. Question though, how do you align the two pieces? It's disaster time if the two pieces are misaligned by only a small amount. I've also found that a light coat of Aleene's Tack It Over &...

    USS Iowa

Darwin, The guns for the Iowa were all tested out in the desert not far from where you live during WWII. Think it was run by Springfield Armory. On the subject of moire patterns and sampling theory the following web page has a fairly decent problem description and better yet describes...

    1:250 Scale USS Helena

Darwin, Definitely a record! Congratulations on the beautiful Helena..., you've done a great job of going it alone without a whole lot of feedback from the group. The reason maybe that everyone was watching to see you lead the way which you did with virve and elan. Thanks, Gil

    cutting carboard?

Tirta, Best to order a pair online. Popala, I was just concerned that you were dismissing the microtouch solution out of hand without having tried them. Each of us has their own tool preferences depending on what needs to be accomplished and the best tool or tools to do the work. The...

    cutting carboard?

I rarely change a blade. It's kept sharp by buffing with polishing compound on a hard felt buffing wheel mounted in a Dremel tool. Wear eye protection and make sure the buff direction is away from the blade edge. Popala, do you have a pair of Fiskar scissors and have you tried them? I...

    cutting carboard?

Not if they're very sharp. Ron originally turned me on to the these scissors and everyone else who's had this problem has had the same success. Xacto blades are not as sharp as are scalpel blades which I now use almost exclusively. For members in North America try this site for tools at great...
